[top]Introduction

The Barony of Ghoere is one of the mightiest countries within Anuire and the kingdom?s central location (the center of the Anuire) gives it easy access to other domains. Because of its huge standing army it is one of the most feared kingdoms today. Its central location is a trap for Ghoere too, if the ruler pursues one neighbor, the others will step in where the borders grow weak.
The lands of Ghoere were created through a union of the once separate but closely aligned duchies of Ghieste and Bhalaene. The Barony itself was born after a civil war in 399 MR.

[top]Life and Society

The Ghoeran way of life is rather simple: obey well and thrive, or rebel and die. Disobedience is not tolerated in any form within the Ghoeran mindset, and it ranks amongst the greatest crimes known throughout the Barony. Many aspects of Ghoeran life is structured in some way, so personal freedom within this realm is rare. The entire realm is rigidly militaristic which manifests itself in the form of civil oppression, and everywhere a man turns, there is an official or officer of some sort policing the populace and ensuring that the status quo is maintained.
The presence of the free middle class, which is becoming more common throughout Anuire, is most evident in the mercantile provinces of Ghiere and Tireste, but has slowly grown in size and strength within Bhalaene over the past decade as well. Elsewhere in the Barony, the vast majority of folk live as serfs who work their Lord?s lands and are seldom permitted to leave the confines of the fiefdom in which they serve.
By far the most common character class for non-nobles within the Barony is that of a warrior, and the long military tradition of the barony encourages folk to pursue the proficiencies of that profession. Excellence in the martial skills is the quickest and easiest route to power and prestige within the Barony. Those who cannot fight tend to gravitate towards the more mundane mercantile pursuits that remain prevalent in the core psyche of old Ghieste. The ratio of career minded rogues (that is to say, those rogues who organize themselves into a business-like entities and brotherhoods) is perhaps higher within the province of Ghiere itself than in all of some of the smaller realms of Anuire.
The vast majority of citizens are common folk who are indentured to some lord or other, and there are relatively few ?free men? amongst the lower classes. With the general appearance of a rising middle class throughout Anuire over the past years, the number of free men is increasing within the Barony, but very few of these are land owners, and so are not entitled to hold serfs under Ghoeran law as landed nobles are. The very nature of the Ghoeran feudal system is such that in matters of a lord to a vassal, the Baron and his officials have very few rights or privilege with which to intervene. As long as the overlying laws of the Barony are not in themselves broken, titled lords and nobles are within their rights to dispense their own justice amongst their vassals and serfs as they deem fit.
Titles and positions are an important aspect of life within the militaristic realm of Ghoere, and the Baron and his nobles are fond of granting titles, honors and medals (of some form or other) upon their subordinates which they deem worthy or who have excelled in some fashion. Since such bureaucratic titles are not generally hereditary in nature, the nobles of Ghoere are relatively free to cast such positions around without having to overly worry about the long reaching effects. As such, there are numerous administrative and bureaucratic titles in use throughout Ghoere, many of which have not been employed since the height of the Empire, and even several dozen positions which are unique to the Barony itself. However, very few of these titles hold any degree of meaning or effect outside of the realm.
Females have great disadvantages within the Barony of Ghoere. Most are seen as social beneath a male, sometimes they even have to serve their husbands; so female warriors, clerics or wizards are rare. Females who have come to power have struggled for it in an extremely hard manner, either through intimidation or with gold. In very rare circumstances they have inherited position and respect. For those few it is still hard to be taken serious by a Ghoerean male.

[top]The army of Ghoere

Though Ghoere?s standing army numbers only 18 units, the mercenaries who serve him can summon their compatriots. Thus, after two war moves, the baron?s army increase its size by another 10 mercenary units.

Special: Calling of the Banners

Aside from it?s standing units, (listed above) the Barony is able to muster an additional force of 3 units worth of troops, (without direct or immediate cost to the throne) upon the close of the second war move of any given military campaign. These additional troops are considered to be the result of the Baron invoking the ancient feudal practice known as "The Calling of the Banners." Essentially the Baron issues a decree that requires his landed nobility to supply him with a percentage of trained and equipped units based on the general net worth of their estate and the amount of land which they directly hold.
These units will arrive in the capital (or another appointed domestic province if desired) at the opening of the final round of the war action in which this power is invoked (i.e. They muster in during the 3rd week of the war -war move 3-, and will arrive at the opening of the 4th week of the war, or the 4th war move phase.) Troops mustered in this fashion may be any normal Anuirean troop type, though there can never be more 1 knight unit among them. All these additional units function as the equivalent mercenary card of the same type.
Calling of the Banners [Court; Lead; varies RP or GB]

A court action is required for this special ?muster troops? action. The regent of Ghoere must succeed a Lead skill check DC 10 + 1 per GB the mustered armies would cost. The Barony can then muster three units for free (or less if he chooses), but he is able to perform this special action only once every other season (twice per year), if the call was successful. The baron needs not to pay any muster costs, but must spend the costs he would pay in RP. If he can?t pay all in RP, he must pay the rest in GB. If he maintenances them afterwards, he still must spend normal maintenance costs for the units, he can?t convert them into RP.
Example: The baron wants to muster 1 unit of knights (6 GB muster cost), 1 unit of elite infantry (4 GB) and 1 unit cavalry (4 GB). To perform the ?Call of the Banners? the regent must spend a court action, must succeed a Lead check DC 24 and must spend 14 RP (if he can?t pay the RP, he must spend the rest in GB).

[top]The Land

Most provinces of Ghoere are farmland and huge fields of grain and other crops can be seen. In summary the terrain resembles that of the eastern marches. Some parts have old mines and most are still in use today. Ghoere is roamed for a vast labyrinthine network beneath the landscape. Before Deismaar, Ghoere was believed to be the territory of over a dozen goblin tribes. Today, it has several stretches of light forest, most of which are used as royal hunting grounds. In the north, the mighty Maesil River can be a better bastion against invasion than any castle.

Achiese possesses a varied terrain a great deal of which is devoted to agriculture. The fortified town of Achiese is one of the oldest settlements of Ghoere and the largest city the county itself. It was a gate to Osoerde for centuries and has never been taken by siege. Achiese is governed by Count Agelmore Pelien, who is known as a vain, cruel and untrustworthy individual.
The Iron Citadel: The Iron Citadel is the central bastion of the Iron Guard of Ghoere. The order is affiliated with the Militant Order of Cuiraécen and was founded by Gavin Tael himself. It lies within the city of Achiese.
The Guardian Stone: The Guardian Stone is a giant monolith that stands in a rocky pass in the south of Achiese since the arrival of the five tribes. It is said by many folk that the Guardian Stone is somehow connected to the goblin mines known as the Tarkal Deeps. Popular rumor suggests that those mines extend under Achiese and open in hidden grottoes and valleys throughout the county. Others suggest that it is some sort of golem or a sleeping giant that awaits for the proper ritual to be performed in order to break its slumber.

[top]Bhalaene (6/0)

Bhalaene lies in the center of Ghoere, has the largest population within the barony and is the home of the baron himself. It is also the center of the Militant Order of Cuiraécen. Bhalaene?s history is long and the large walled city of Bhalaene was a trade center since it was the capital of the duchy of Bhalaene. The province is the granary of Ghoere too; here are some of the largest fields of Anuire although most of these crops are needed to maintain the enormous standing army of the baron. The province is lead by Governor Owen Tuorven (MA; Nbl3/ Ftr1; non-blooded; LE) who strictly obeys any order given by the baron.
Rock Roost Castle: This enormous fortress, Rock Roost Castle, stand on a large plateau in the center of the city of Bhalaene and is the home of Gavin Tael. Its imposing sight can make a visitor nervous for it is made completely of black stone. It is highly ornamented with gargoyles and different black birds. It is said that it?s nearly impossible to conquer because of its thick walls and integrated traps. It was built after the union of the two duchies on the top of the razed castle of Bhalaene.
The baron?s hunting forest: It is an old wood, existing since Deismaar and used as royal hunting ground by the baron and his nobles. Commoners are forbidden by death to enter it. Centuries of non-intrusion have made the forest wild and dangerous. Several stories are plotted around it including myths about satyrs and centaurs. Some even claim there to be a gate to the Shadow World, others swear they have seen a mysterious white stag that protects the forest.

Bheline is found in the south of Ghoere and borders on Roesone and the Spiderfell. Floods or marshland are possible during the spring, so Bheline centers on pastures of sheep. Goblin bandits from the Spiderfell are a common sight and most shepherds loose a part of their herd every year. Apart from Gweirlaen there is no larger city found in Bheline. The province is governed by Count Raesene Cardael who executes the baron?s wishes as harshly as the baron would himself. The goblin raids are less severe and occur less often since the Count has been in this position. It is said, that he will remedy the problem completely in the next months.

[top]Conalier (2/3)

Conalier lies in the north of Ghoere and has borders to Mhoried and Elinie. It is the least inhabited province. The largest settlement today is a garrison near the Maesil River that overlooks the Cwlldon province in Mhoried. Conalier became famous about 70 years ago, when a gold-rush fevered the land. The province is ruled by Count Gaerik Bellerran, a minor noble who still believes the old stories and strives to enrich himself with this legendary gold.
The Ruins of Conalier: A farmer found gold at the bank of the river Maesil about 70 years ago and the news spread like a disease throughout Ghoere. During the next few years hundreds of small villages grew near the river and some prospectors even became rich, but most learned that not all stories are true. Today many ghost cities are found in Conalier, most lay in ruins meanwhile, but some remain unexplored.

[top]Danaroene (4/1)

Danaroene is a neighbor to Bellam province of Roesone and has a very mixed countryside. The north and east is a rocky land and some lesser mines are found. The borderland to Roesone is filled with fields of crops. Many battles were fought during Ghoere?s history in this province and armies of both realms constantly crossed it until recently. Several small villages and towns are found in this province, but none of importance. The little town named Ghinarone in the direct borderland to Roesone is said to be have been destroyed and rebuilt no less than five times during its history. The current Count of Danarone is Aeric Gwynaard.
The Bandit?s Demise: The Bandit?s Demise is the site of the most recent battle between Roesone and Ghoere. It lies a few miles north-west of a pass named Umleigh Keep. History records that the battle was so vicious and that so much blood was spilt, that only weeds, briars, and hardy field grass will grow in the rutted and scored earth. Many tales tell of the spectres of the dead rising in the night to slaughter any foolish enough to be near and more than a few goats have been found drained of blood amongst the cairns as well.

Ghiere is one of the richest provinces of Ghoere because of the flowing trade the Maesil River brings. The capital of Ghiere is the city of Ghieste, a trading centre since the earliest days of the Anuirean Empire and also capital of the old duchy of Ghieste. The baron is highly interested in this flowing market to give his realm additional gold. Though one might suspect Ghoere of taxing anything that comes down the river, this is not the case. Ghieste is also a two-sided coin and attracts merchants as well as rogues and bandits. Bards tell tales from the outside world frequently and cause some locals to leave Ghoere, but most return. Bruider Arlannis is the current Count of Ghiere.
The Brotherhood of the Spur: The feared Brotherhood of the Spur is based in the city of Ghieste. They are also renowned as the ?Redspurs?. This violent knightly order is affiliated with the Militant Order of Cuiraécen, but is in fact only tolerated by the church. The brotherhood is said to serve Stiele Ghieste, high priest of Ghoere, as a private army to whom they show absolute loyalty. Vehemently opposed by the Lances of the Dawn in Elinie, these knights mercilessly ride their mounts across Anuire to do the Stiele Ghieste?s bidding. They are famous for riding their mounts to death, and their spurs are often bloodied from kicking their mounts to ever-greater speed.
The Riverport Marsh (Shadowmere Swamp): The Shadowmere swamp has lain since mankind can remember in the north of this province and parts even reach into Mhoried and Alamie. Mists and fog are common there and many a wanderer has been lost forever. Vermin like mosquitoes and leeches plague the entire province with their bites. Several monsters roam the swamp and will-o-wisps lead frequently travelers into mud holes.

[top]Rhumannen (4/1)

Laying close to the Spiderfell, Rhumannen is one of the most raid-plagued provinces. The Mhor of Mhoried has always managed to maintain a notable amount of influence throughout the province and strengthened it over time. The Mhor has nearly the same influence as does Gavin Tael, a fact the baron is constantly trying to change. Most people of Rhumannen make their living from agriculture and cattle-breeding, but the only large city is the mining city of Bhrier. The current count of Rhumannen is the honored commoner Rheghor Saerel.
The Storm Valley: This little valley laying in the center of the province is rumored to be of the place where Cuiraécen appeared to a knight of Haelyn named Daenar Goerwin in the beginning of the sixth century after Deismaar. It is said Daenar became the first true cleric of the Stormlord and built the first temple dedicated to the god only a few miles away. Other rumors about this valley say that one of the most important artifacts of Cuiraécen is hidden within it, but only a champion of the Stormlord will ever find it and leave this valley alive. Storms often rage this valley, and some claim that a true worshipper of Cuiraécen may feel his presence there if a storm cracks above him.

[top]Thoralinar (3/2)

Thoralinar is found in the east of Ghoere. It is one of the rockiest provinces within the barony and the location of most of the old mines. Only sheep and goats can survive with this meager amount of grass, so the people of Thoralinar mainly live from mining. The province produces the greatest part of Ghoere?s supply of iron, copper, coal and other minerals. Most of the iron and copper is exported to Bhalaene to be forged into weapons and armor for Ghoere?s huge army. A minor amount is exported to neighboring realms. The aged noble Belryc Wiermaeon (MA, Nbl2; Scion of Anduiras; minor, 4; LN) is currently the Count of Toralinar.
The Mage Tower: The so-called Mage Tower in the borderland to Elinie in the deepest mountains of Toralinar is an old ruin of a tower. Nobody has tried to enter it since centuries because it is said that it was the home of an old elven wizard in the times of Deismaar. Some claim he has managed it to keep away the goblin-clans first and the humans second for centuries. The walls of the tower are very weak meanwhile and it seems to stand because of its magic only. If the old wizard is still the owner of the tower, if only birds could be found there today or if the Sword Mage has made it his home meanwhile, nobody can say. Rumors speak from powerful magical protections that secure it, but also from a huge treasure of gold, jewels and magical items.

Tireste is the second greatest trade center of Ghoere. It?s geographic location along Maesil River and its borders to Endier make it a paradise for merchants. Because of its rolling hills of verdant grass and wildflowers Tireste is one of the most beautiful realms within Ghoere. Though the countryside appears serene and peaceful, the politics of the region are quite the opposite. Guilder Kalien of Endier has managed to dominate the province?s economy over the last few years, and his influence rivals the Baron?s own. The Countess Gwyllese Brimnance Vathormane is the ruling Countess of Tireste.

[top]Tornilen (3/2)

Tornilen is another center of agriculture within Ghoere. It frequently suffers as a battlefield between the forces of the Mhoried and the Baron. Since it is not uncommon for the farmlands of the region to be torn asunder by clashing raiding forces from either realm, the folk of Tornilen have become hardy and are stubbornly indomitable. The only town of importance is the port city of Almen. It lies across the river from the Mhoried port of Riumache and looks like a small sister of Ghieste (city). High Lady Margaery Khellevien (FA, Wiz4, Scion of Vorynn; minor, 14; LN) is the current Countess of Tornilen, a young and beautiful graduate of the Royal College of Sorcery.
Fort Tornilen: Fort Tornilen is a large fortress located near the port city of Almen. It was built to oversee the borders that lead to Mhoried. It?s the greatest hindrance, if the Mhor tries to conquer Tornilen again, but also the first address for a new try of invasion of the Mhor?s province Tenarien.

As Roele expanded his Empire across Cerilia the lands that are now known as the Barony of Ghoere were once separate, but closely aligned Duchies known as Ghieste and Bhalaene. These two Imperial powers had long been allied and dependent upon the other, and together the two realms seemed to exemplify everything for which the Empire stood.
The marriage of heiress to the Duchy of Ghieste, Briende Ghieste and Ghieste's leading noble, Graeham Tael, the Baron of Ghoere, lead to their son, Regien Tael, becoming a future claimant to the throne of Ghieste. Regien succeeded his father as Baron of Ghoere and remained a great influence at court. Owing to this power and jealous of his own authority, Duke Rhegor Ghieste, an old man and Regien's great uncle, tried several times to remove Regien from his court. Eventually this came to violence, which Regien won. Rhegor refused to acknowledge his loss and invested another, more distant claimant, Carilon Bhalaene, already Duke of Bhalaene as his heir, and the two fought Regien together. Despite Bhalaene military prowess, the duchy fell to Regien Tael, though he was never able to successfully invest either title of Duke.
In response to repeated offenses and slights made by Duke Harlan Diem, Carilon's brother-in-law, as well as continued interference in the affairs of Ghoere by the Impregnable Heart of Haelyn attempting to acquire losses of Haelyn's Aegis which Regien had promised to the Militant Order of Cuiraécen, the Baron Regien marched against Diemed in 429 MR. Marching his forces through the still sparsely populated lands of eastern Diemed, the armies of Ghoere assaulted the City of Ilien. The siege lasted several months, but his armies were finally forced to withdraw by the superior magic of Countess Azlea Aglondier.
In 434 MR Baron Regien?s son, Gherryt Tael, succeeded the throne of Ghoere. Gherryt?s reign was unremarkable, for he was a far better administrator than warrior. Despite his lack of martial prowess, Baron Gherryt?s efforts resulted in the strengthening of the Ghoeran economy, and the land began to recover from the incessant wars and strife that it had endured for so long.
In 471 MR Noered Tael rose to power as the new Baron of Ghoere, and arranged marriage to Cordeilla Tuor, the grand-daughter Regien's old friend, Marc Tuor. For a brief time, the entire Barony was at peace. Baron Noered was a strong leader, and his wife was an accomplished diplomat who traveled the barony creating peace and prosperity where she passed. In 482 MR, however, the Baroness of Ghoere died of a strange fever after returning from a trip to Elinie, and soon afterward Baron Noered succumbed to a cancerous black brooding over her loss. He blamed ?the Khinasi savages? on his eastern border for his beloved wife?s death and in 484 MR the armies of Ghoere conquered the entire land of Elinie through a series of lightening-quick battles, whose strategic brilliance is still legendary today. The following year saw Noered strike into Mhoried, and by the spring of 486 MR, the Barony of Ghoere held most of Mhoried under its control.
Noered?s success was not to last, however, for he would loose his grasp upon Mhoried the following spring, and within a year of his army?s retreat from Mhoried, Tuorel was slain by assasins from Elinie, and his throne descended by his son, Orvaene Ghorelle. This Baron held Ghoere with an iron first, but failed to continue the martial might the Barony experienced under Noered or those before him. Within the decade Ghoere had lost its hold over Elinie and by 515 MR, the Barony of Ghoere was reduced in might to little more than a loose collection of only barely aligned provinces.
In 530 MR Baron Orvaene?s armies met the forces of the fledgling Barony of Roesone in what is now known as the Battle of Danaroene Field. The forces of Roesone, lead by the violent Baron Morghan Roesone and his Marshal, Vaesin Isilviere, had managed by stealth, to strike deep into the County of and were only discovered through a chance encounter with Orvaene?s own vanguard as they marched to treat with the Count of the province, Gwynaard Danaroene. The resulting battle of their meeting is legendary among Danaroene?s populace, for although the raiding force of Roesone were greatly overmatched, they fought a hard-won victory against the Ghoerans, and escaped back into Ghoried with a great deal of booty.
As the fog of war cleared, Baron Orvaene was found on the field, suffering from a vicious stomach wound. Although he was healed upon arrival at Count Gwynaard?s Keep, Orvaene never fully recovered. By early 531 MR, Orvaene was dead. Orvaene?s cousin, Gavin Tael, claimed the rulership of the Barony in a relatively smooth succession. A few accused Tael of having delivered the stomach wound to his incompetent cousin, but there has never been any evidence brought forth to support such a claim, and many who were present at the battle have asserted that Tael with with his Iron Guard many hundreds of yards away from the baron. Most accept that while Gavin Tael is a driven, evil man, he does not foolishly grasp at power, but waits for the proper moment. If Tael had taken the throne of Ghoere prematurely, he would have set himself up as an obvious usurper and despot, provoking and unifying his minor nobles and causing a popular revolt.
Since his reign began, Baron Tael has managed to cement the Barony into a firm and strong realm once again, and under his guidance, the Barony has truly earned its reputation as the premiere war machine throughout Anuire.

[top]Important Figures

Lord Gavin Tael, Baron of Ghoere (MAn; Ftr6/Wld3; Scion of Reynir, Major, 49, LE). He is one of the most dangerous and powerful men in Anuire. The ruthless and cunning baron can inspire great loyalty among his vassals. This in combination with his martial ability makes him a really dangerous foe. He sees himself as the law itself, he rewards greatly, but also punishes those who failed him fatal. He uses survival and fear as motivators: Cross him and you won?t survive. Serve him well and you have nothing to fear. His desire for expansion is well known, he wants all for himself and now and so he rules Ghoere with a literal iron fist.
The baron is a man in his fifties, has iron-colored hair and dark eyes, wears a moustache and is mostly seen wearing the ?Crown of Ghoere?. He is described as slightly less fiery tempered than the Gorgon, but has learned to show none of his true feelings. It is very hard to read his emotions, for his face wears always the same expression. Further he has mastered to play with his neighbor?s fears to strengthen his position.
Stiele Ghieste (High Priest of Ghoere) (MAn; Clr 9/Ftr1; Cuiraécen; Scion of Anduiras, major, 14, CN). Known as aggressive and ruthless as well, Stiele Ghieste works very closely with Lord Tael and is a supporter of his war aims. He may be sure of the loyalty of more than half of the Ghoeran temples and follows the directives of the overall ruler Fhylie the Sword only when it suits him. The afflicted order known as the ?Redspurs? are under his complete control too and serve him as a private army (they are his cohort). It is said that he wants to further strengthen his command over the temples of Ghoere and then cut the strings to the rest of the order.
Jonathan Michale (First Lieutenant) (MAn; Ftr5; unblooded, LN). He is one of several unblooded and common born lieutenants and very proud of serving Tael. Michale obeys the baron without question and strives to please him.
Nhiele Aernghar (Second Lieutenant) (FAn; Rgr6; unblooded, NE). Nhiele is a very harsh and cruel woman. She is one of the few females of the Barony who has managed it to fight her way through the oppression. Today she is the second Lieutenant at the baron?s side. Few venture to cross her and she is famous for being quicker with her two swords than her mouth.
The Sword Mage (?V; Wiz10; Scion of Vorynn, major, 21, LE). He is rumored to be a summoner of fiends and is one of the most feared arcane spellcasters throughout Anuire. The Sword Mage is clad in a robe apparently made entirely of blades and is surrounded with secrets, so nobody can even say certainly his sex (but most claim it to be male). He is renowned as an evil, ruthless and cruel sorcerer.
Ghorien Hiriele (MAn; Rog5/Ass1; Scion of Anduiras, minor, 10, CE). He is known as a malicious and cruel guild master who doesn?t shy away from killing his enemies or those who failed him in a bloody way to warn imitators. He is a true assassin and shows this to friends and enemies. Ghorien Hiriele strives to impress Gavin Tael to become the only guild master of Ghoere. With this goal in mind he hands over much information to Tael, and even assassinates some of his inner enemies to please the baron.

[top]Plots and Rumours

The Baron?s Blood: During the last few months, rumors have spread within Ghoere that Gavin Teal would convince his followers and vassals to sacrifice their bloodline and invest the baron with it. Some claim that if the vassals refuse to invest him voluntarily, he simply performs bloodtheft. It is said he wants to become the regent with the most powerful bloodline, first including the bloodlines of his vassals and then those of the diverse nobles of Roesone and Medoere. In this manner, he seeks to pave his way to the iron throne.
The Baroness of Roesone: Ghoeres weaker southern neighbor has often been attacked, and no less than four minor wars have been fought. Now stories are emerging in the south of Ghoere that Gavin Tael has approached Roesone asking for the baroness? support for his claim for the Iron Throne. Several Ghoeran emissaries have been seen in the borderland to Roesone, and it is now believed that Tael has given the baroness an ultimatum: Ally with Ghoere or face destruction. Some of the southern Ghoeran people who believe this story see Roesone only as a little snack for Tael?s way to the Iron Throne.
The Lost Paladin: The catacombs of the Temple of Bhalaene have recently uncovered long lost documents about the history of Cuiraécen?s church. The writings tell of a paladin of Cuiraécen named Hagen Sturmfels, a true hero of the Stormlord, who disappeared without trace in 165 MR (1138 HC). According to the documents, Cuiraécen?s avatar appeared to him and sent him on a mysterious quest. What quest this was is unknown, but it is said that the Stormlord gave his own mighty spear to him so that he can solve it. If something is true about this old text and whether Cuiraécen got his weapon back, nobody can say. The only hint about Sturmfels? destination is a place named ?the mistmoor?.
The Wizard?s Alliance: Regien, the court wizard of Mhoried, is rumored to have penned an alliance with Baron Tael. Though the details are not known, the timely aid of Mhoried?s only wizard would be pivotal in determining the success of a campaign against that Duchy. The Sword Mage shall surely balk at any offers or rewards the Baron has promised Regien in return for his aid, and is not likely to allow a rival sorcerer to gain a foothold upon the mebhaighl of Ghoere. Some of the baron?s generals are said to be growing concerned that Tael is putting too many eggs in his basket, and that even if his strategies are successful, that he will have to divide the spoils among so many allies that he would effectively gain very little
Beware of Ghoere: With the uprisings in the neighboring Duchy of Osoerde since the throne of that realm was usurped by Jaison Raenech, many of the traditional enemies of Ghoere have been forced to turn their attentions in that direction. There is a strong movement within the baronial court to begin funneling resources towards expansion in light of this event, while others insist that the wisest course would be to simply wait and see what happens within the Duchy. Should the neighboring realms, which have so long been holding Ghoere behind a fence, suddenly be forced to march upon Osoerde, then the barony would have the opportunity to expand into one of these lands with little or no opposition until it was too late.
