I've unfortunately never actually gotten the chance to play in a Birthright campaign. And thus, have no idea how much territory one can take in the quest to rebuild the Anuirean Empire in your average campaign. So for those who played in games where one of the PC's ruled a Domain, what lands did you start off with, and what did you add afterwards?

As an Elf, helped carve the Giantdowns into a stable mostly human realm. Good relation w/ dhoesone and lluabraight (ceded thier 2 lost forest provinces back to them and found one of the missing mhegbail(sp) stones). Blood Skull Barony took Darkwood but the rest remained in the group's hands. Well, half of the group. The other half of the group, the more evil half, traversed to the White Witches Realm with a small army and conquered it. The lead character in that little bunch was a beginning awnshegh.
Group ended soon after King of the Giantdowns was a pretty good adventure IMO
I played a moderate elf who worshipped Rournil, Cleric/Wizard/Mystic Theurge and his elven fighter cohort, who later attracted her own military units.. that helped a bunch ^_^Thread Slaying Specialist.

Currently, I'm ruling Mieres. The first part of this response will show you how I created an empire in Aduria, and the 2nd part I'll show you how some other PCs in the same game I am are headed toward making an Anuirian Empire. the 3rd part will just sum up and make sure that I directly answered your 2 questions.
Backstory: My father was duke of Mieres, and the guilder Aron Vomel (heh, forgot how thats spelled), tried to take power by killing my father when I and my twin sister went on out on our voyage to prove our worth. We went south to Aduria, btw. We came back and kicked the bastards arse and I become Duke, while my sister became the High Priestess of the Southern Temple of Neserie. Both of us started with Greate Bloodlines of Masela 24.
My DM said that the fall out from Desiemar happend just to the west and south of Mieres so I could only expand 1 province to the south and none to the west. (I had to create that province) So, I began a Crusade against the remains of Aduria with its "evil ways." Heheh, basically they were slavers and it was a good excuse to go conquer them With some planning and later some hard fought battles I managed to conquer the Eastern Adurian Coast, its different than the way it was orrigianaly drawn, tho if youre interested in seeing what my DM has made for the coast lines and basically how far I've pushed along the Adurian Coast I have the websites posted on my website Mieres Empire After that I expanded further via making allies, the Kai tribes, and also conquering new lands, Sankhara.
My plan is to create an empire heheh, the way my DM set that up is DC 1000 - Province levels - RP spent by those joinin, so province levels + my vassals and allies joinin the empire can add RP to basically lower the DC, and those opposing the creation could use their RP to increase the DC. (if I want to include allies in the Empire I need to have at least a Level 0 law holding in their capital.) Example the Kai tribes are allies and the northern lands along the wastelands (2 provinces deep) in Aduria are my sisters lands and called the Protectorate of Neserie. I currently have over 300 province levels to join the Empire, 6 vassals under me, and 3 allies, The Kai, the Protectorate and a vassal under the Protectorate. My vassals pushed inland on their own as I gave them the good incentive for higher ranking if they capture more povinces have it set up as Count/Baron/Duke with the minimum provinces held as 3/5/9 and max as 4/8/12. I started most of them as counts with 3 provinces, and now I have 3 barons with 5, 7, and 7 provinces and 3 counts with 3, 3, and 4 provinces.
Heheh, so far this has taken me from 551 to 563 and I'll create the Empire in Winter 563. The only reason its taken me about 12 years is because my DM decided that Aduria is significantly weaker and divided than Anuire.
If you want to try unifying Anuire under a new Empire... heheh, good luck... However, I do have some ideas about that also and the general time frame. The most of the other PCs in the game im playing have created something like the Southern Alliance, which includes Roseone, Illiad, Aerenwe, Osoerde, Medoere, Mieres and they took over Diemed and Endier. In addition they have created an informal alliance with Tournen and Alamie who will join the Southern Alliance in the future, once Avin is taken care of as Tournen doesnt want to have Avin as an enemy yet. They, have a very strong guilder PC and cleric PC along with several rulers controling the provinces.
It seems like the ruler of Roseone (who is an NPC now, as the PC character ruling it before was killed in battle) will become emperess probably in roughly the same time frame as when I become emperor, maybe even sooner than winter 563 depending on how hard and fast they push to taking over Avin and Boeruine. Ghoere probably wont be much of a problem for them as they have managed to take out the Sword Mage.
So to break it down to more clearly answer your 2 questions for making an empire in Anuire: the Southern Alliance began with Roesone, Illiad, Aerenwe, Osoerde, Medoere, in fall 553 I believe and Mieres joined in Fall 555. This includes the temple and guild regents btw so not just landed regents. Sometime before fall 555 they attacked and took Diemed and Endier (not sure about those exact dates and Endier may have been after fall 555), they made it look like Diemed struck first via a subversion realm spell. They formed the informal alliance with Tournen and Alamie sometime around 555 or 556 i believe. (The reason I'm not so sure about the dates is because I'm ahead of them in time frame as im at winter 563 and theyre around fall 557)
Heh, so if you want to try and create an empire its prob a good idea to find a bunch of either like minded people who all support one person... like the Southern Alliance is doing basically though that wasnt its orriginal purpose (it was essentially defense pact against any hostiles)
Or you can try to do it my way, which is to create an easily defensible strong seat of power, that doesnt have to worry much about outsiders (as anybody from the north who tries to attack Mieres will have to use ships and we all know how easy it is for a couple higher level cleric of Neserie with control weather and control water to destroy their fleet. So, I have lived with no serious competion to my law or province holdings, and neither has the Temple nor my guilder who is a PC. I pushed into Aduria as they were much weaker as they were at best 1-3 province rulers compared to me a 10 province ruler (8 from original Mieres, 1 from the new province i created and 1 from Albiele Island that I took.)
If you want to get some more detailed info about the Southern Alliance and creating the Anuirian Empire, just ask Osprey as hes my DM, unfortunately, the other PCs do not regularly visit this website. Heh, pity really as they would prob gain alot from it... oh well. If you have any questions about my Mieres Empire then just ask me"Who was the first that forged the deadly blade? Neat story. Thanks for sharing.
The closest I ever got to actually playing a Birthright game, the character I had created ended up with a Great Bloodline of Anduiras. I ended up with abilities like Animal Affinity - Great, Battlewise, and Divine Wrath (Which led me to nickname the character "The Lionheart"). I was planning on plunking down the character in Aerenwe and make him a cousin of Lilien Swordwraith. I rebuilt Aerenwe from the ground up, though, and came up with a MUCH more powerful nation, which a large revenue stream and a powerful as hell army (My explanation for this is that the rulership passed from Lilien Swordwraith, to my characters father, who then built it up, to my character). My intent was to conquer Oserde the MOMENT they tried stirring things up with me. Sadly, that campaign never happened.

Cool idea for your character, "Lionhart" heheh, you need a crusade for that kind of name... too bad you didnt get the chance to jump em Though I'm rather surpised that you were able to build up Arenewe so much as a large part of it is forested. Would think that a plains realms, like Roesone, would offer a better chance for revenue... Unless you got a good mage regent in the Erebannien who is interested in helping you conquer and create an empire. Heh, for that matter you would want a guilder and Temple regent who also have simialr interests... makes life easier then
Yeah, I have Animal Affinity -Great (dolphin), Control Element - Great (water) instead of water walk my DM thought that control water was more appropriate as do I, Divine Aura - Great and Travel - Great. Heheh, also got 5 minor and 5 major abilities... the coolest is that me and my sis have bloodmark and for us as we both have Animal Affinity - Great (and started with it) we have black eyes and white hair, heheh, definately an unsual site. I'm true neutral with tendancies toward evil (the tendancies are probably more from my own lawful evil nature however, my DM helps to remind me with my friends, the other nobles and leading a future empire is really keeping me in check often times, along with my sis who is neutral good and the high Priestess of Neserie)
Heheh, originally I wanted to make a Pirate King... somehow I got sidetracked with creating this big ol' empire... heh, well reponsibility is a bastard sometimes... So, as I got long life major (my DM has it as 10:1 year ratio) and as hes an epic level character now, 21, I figure given some time I will just conquer most of Aduria, leaving the rest for my kids to take, and once they are ready, I'll go take a good ship and head out to become an infamous pirate! heheh, lots more fun then.. probably end up in my DMs other game based on Oriental Adventures... that would be amusing."Who was the first that forged the deadly blade? Of rugged steel his savage soul was made." --Tibullus
"Qui desiderat pacem praeparet bellum." --Vegetius
"Men grow tired of sleep, love, singing and dancing sooner than war." --Homer

yep, why i stated that my DM has it at 10:1. heheh, though if I ever get bloodtrait then he said that it would follow the normal rules from the BCRS, namely 25:1 like you said.

Though I'm rather surpised that you were able to build up Arenewe so much as a large part of it is forested.
Had the campaign gotten going, though, I was hoping to possibly get an elf player to create their own domain in the Erebannien and then become my vassal, populating the Erebannien with elves. That way I could increase the ratings on those provinces without trashing the Erebannien in the process.
As for continent spanning conquests, I hoped to one day arrive in the City of Anuire, kick over the Iron Throne, and replace it with my own Lion Throne.
Damn, though. 21 levels and counting? Wow, I'm impressed. Good idea, though. After all, if you're gonna live that long, why tie yourself down with such a heavy responsibility the whole time? Kick back and have fun, says I.

heheh, yeah thats 21 levels of either serious combat, ruling up Mieres from its low level provinces as my DM awards exp for doing so, to now having 2 level 10 provinces (the forests of Seaward and Dhalier have been reduced to a minor terrain type, and thus making them essentiall plains provinces), and Ghaele is a level 11 province, with some cool wonders. I raised it to level 11 because the DM decided that taking a wonder up to the max level of the province would allow you to increase the province level only once though. So, I have a level 11 Naval Academy, heh, which is all about ships and marines . Perfect for Mieres as its a nice seat for being a strong Naval Power.
The DC tho to raise a province up to level 11 is higher than normal adds +2 to the DC for every level over 10. Heh, that is if I remember it correctly, it maybe a different mathematical formula instead, like 2 times the province level you want to raise it to, so the DC to raise a province to level 14 would be 28... heh they equate to teh same thing really, just depends on how you like to think of it. Also, the University wonder, would allow you to increase the province levels once it gets into "epic" wonder levels (11+). The exact stats for these things were posted on the website sometime before I believe so I wont repost them here, if you want them its best to really ask Osprey as hes got the better updated versions of them as word files. I dont have the more recent updates, just the older versions. Heheh, we talked about teh updates and worked on some of the parts together, however, not for all of it.
My sis is level 22, one of my vassals is level 21, (both NPCs) hes just a really good ruler and have 7 provinces, heh, the rest of my vassals are 11+ with an average of 15 level. They are all loyal as they got to watch me fight... heheh, I like 2 weap fighting and with my cutlass of speed and scabard of keen edges... I slice and dice my way though many opponents... gotta love it... of course I got some most excellent support and that is really what means the difference... oh yeah... If i didnt have my sis to heal me, or her pali protector or my spymaster bard, or my source regent wizzie, I would be dead several times over... Heh, as it is Its a friggin miricle ive made it this far. My DM is very good at playing the bad guy and has no qualms killin PCs, so far in the other group of PCs in this game hes killed 2 out of 4-5. Ive been in about 6 near death experiences so far, and my health has dropped to single digets a couple times. heheh, havent fallen unconsious yet tho, thankfully, or I would be dead by now."Who was the first that forged the deadly blade? In my current campaign, my PCs are yet to claim a kingdom of their own (they are currently 8th level). They have just conquered a village and ruined castle, killing off the evil undead lord who controlled it after a massive battle that saw half the village destroyed. They then left the village elder to handle repairs and went off looking for more treasure, planning to return shortly for an investiture ceremony.
So far only 1 PC has died, and another is temporarily imprisoned in the Shadow World (while the player is on holiday) after doing something amazingly stupid. A week doesn't go by without one player or another coming close to death, but the Dwarven Cleric is too quick with his spell so far.Let me claim your Birthright!!
