This is an expanded spell list for the Magician class based on the guidelines from [[BRCS]]. It contains the spells on the original spell list plus all the appropriate spells from 3.5 edition sources published by Wizards of the Coast.
Illusion (Shadow) spells like Shadow Evocation and Shadow Conjuration have been removed because the main original spell list clearly states that Magicans shouldn't have access to spells that mimic effects of the spells they can't cast.
Spells from [[BRCS]] are linked to as in the original spell list. Spells from Player's Handbook are not marked in any way. Spells from other sources are marked with appropriate superscript according to the following legend:

Amanuensis. SC Copy nonmagical text.

Caltrops. SC Creates caltrops in 5-ft.-by-5-ft. square, +5-ft. square/2 levels beyond 1st (max 5).

Dancing Lights. Figment torches or other lights.

Daze. Creature loses next action.

Detect Magic. Detects spells and magic items within 60 ft.

Detect Poison. PHB Detects poison in one creature or small object.

Flare. Dazzles one creature (-1 attack).

Ghost Sound. Figment sounds.

Know Direction. PHB You discern north.

Launch Bolt. SC Launches a crossbow bolt up to 80 ft.

Launch Item. SC Hurls Fine item up to Medium range.

Light. Object shines like a torch.

Mage Hand. 5-pound telekinesis.

Mending. Makes minor repairs on an object.

Minor Disguise. SC Makes slight changes to your appearance.

No Light. BoVD Prevents normal light from illuminating.

Open/Close. Opens or closes small or light things.

Prestidigitation. Performs minor tricks.

Read Magic. Read scrolls and spellbooks.

Resistance. Subject gains +1 on saving throws.

Silent Portal. SC Negates sound from door or window.

Stick. SC Glues an object weighing 5 pounds or less to another object.

Unnerving Gaze. BoVD Subject takes -1 penalty on attacks for 1d3 rounds.

[top]1st-level Magician Spells

Accelerated Movement. CAdv, SC Swift. Balance, Climb, or Move Silently at normal speed with no penalty on skill check.

Alarm. Wards an area for 2 hours/level.

Appraising Touch. SC Gain +10 bonus on Appraise checks.

Armor Lock CSco Target?s armor becomes restrictive, slowing movement to 10 ft.

Arrow Mind. CAdv, SC Immediate. You threaten nearby squares with your bow and fi re without provoking attacks of opportunity.

Benign Transposition. SC Two willing subjects switch places.

Burning Rage. PHB II Subject takes 4 points of damage/round, gains attack bonus and DR.

Buzzing Bee. SC Bee gives subject ?10 penalty on Move Silently and hinders Concentration checks.

Catsfeet. CMage Reroll a Balance, Climb, Jump, or Move Silently check with +5 bonus.

Cause Fear. One creature flees for 1d4 rounds.

Change Self. Changes your appearance.

Charm Person. Makes one person your friend.

Cheat. BoVD, SC Caster rerolls when determining the success of a game of chance.

Color Spray. Knocks unconscious, blinds, or stuns 1d6 weak creatures.

Comprehend Languages. Understand all spoken and written languages.

Corrupt Weapon. BoVD Weapon confirms critical hits against good foes.

Crabwalk. SC Touched creature gains bonus while charging.

Critical Strike. CAdv, SC Swift. For 1 round you gain +1d6 damage, doubled threat range, and +4 on attack rolls to confirm critical hits.

Cure Light Wounds. Cures 1d8 +1/level damage (max +5).

Dead End. SC Removes spoor of one creature/level.

Detect Dragonblood. DM Detect dragons and dragonblooded creatures within 60 ft.

Detect Secret Doors. Reveals hidden doors within 60 ft.

Detect Undead. Reveals undead within 60 ft.

Detect Weaponry. City Reveals hidden weapons within 60 feet.

Disguise Self. PHB Changes your appearance.

Dispel Ward. SC As dispel magic, but affects only wards.

Distort Speech. SC Subject?s speech is 50% unintelligible, so it might miscast spells.

Distract. SC Subjects take ?4 on Concentration, Listen, Search, and Spot.

Distract Assailant. CAdv, SC Swift. One creature is flat-footed for 1 round.

Drug Resistance. BoVD Subject is immune to addiction.

Ebon Eyes. SC Subject can see through magical darkness.

Erase. Mundane or magical writing vanishes.

Expeditious Retreat. Doubles your speed.

Extract Drug. BoVD Creates drug from inanimate object.

Feather Fall. Objects or creatures fall slowly.

Friendly Face. RoD Gain +5 bonus on Diplomacy and Gather Information checks.
Float. Frost Subject becomes buoyant.

Golem Strike. CAdv, SC Swift. You can sneak attack constructs for 1 round.

Grease. Makes 10-ft. square or one object slippery.

Greater Mage Hand. SC As mage hand, but medium jrange and up to 40 lb.

Guided Path. CMage Find nearest establishment of designated type.

Guided Shot. CAdv, SC Swift. You ignore distance penalties with your ranged attacks for 1 round.

Healthful Rest. CAdv, SC Subjects heal at twice the normal rate.

Hold Portal. PHB Holds door shut.

Hypnotism. Fascinates 2d4 HD of creatures.

Identify. Determines single feature of magic item.

Immediate Assistance CMage Allow subject to reroll a skill check.

Incite. SC Subjects can?t ready actions or delay.

Inhibit. SC Subject delays until next round.

Insightful Feint. CAdv, SC Swift. Gain +10 on your next Bluff check to feint in combat.

Instant Locksmith. CAdv, SC Swift. Make Disable Device or Open Lock check at +2 as free action.

Instant Search. CAdv, SC Swift. Make Search check at +2 as free action.

Ironguts. SC Subject gains +5 bonus on saving throws against poison.

Jump. PHB Subject gets bonus on Jump checks.

*Khinasi Trader's Tongue (Illusion). Subject gets +5 on diplomacy checks involving financial negotiations.

*Know Bloodline (Divination). Determines target?s bloodline strength and derivation.

*Know Origin (Divination). Determines target?s origin or home.

Lesser Confusion. PHB One creature is confused for 1 round.

Locate City. RoD Find nearest city.

Locate Water. Sand Reveals location, size and quality of water sources.

Low-Light Vision. CArc, SC See twice as far as a human in poor illumination.

Mage Armor. Gives subject +4 armor bonus.

Mage Burr. CSco Double arcane spell failure chance for target?s armor.

Magic Mouth. PHB Speaks once when triggered.

Magic Weapon. Weapon gains +1 bonus.

Master's Touch. CAdv, SC Swift. You gain proficiency in a weapon or shield touched for 1 min./level.

Message. Whispered conversation at distance.

Mount. Summons riding horse for 2 hours/level.

Nerveskitter. SC Subject gains +5 bonus on initiative checks.

Net of Shadows. SC Ordinary shadows that provide concealment to all in the area.

Nystul's Magical Aura. Grants object false magic aura.

Nystul's Undetectable Aura. Masks magic item's aura.

Obscure Object. PHB Masks object against scrying.

Peacebond. City Weapon is impossible to draw.

Protection from Chaos/Evil/Good/Law. +2 AC and saves, counter mind control, hedge out elementals and outsiders.

Ray of Hope. BoED Subject gains +2 bonus on attacks, saves and checks.

Remove Scent. SC Hides touched creature?s scent.

Resinous Tar. CMage Sticky substance slows movement or renders object difficult to drop.

Rouse. PHB II Awakens creatures in area.

Sacrificial Skill. BoVD Caster gains +5 bonus on Knowledge (religion) checks made during sacrifice.

Scatterspray. SC Group of small objects flies apart in a burst.

Scholar's Touch. RoD Read books in seconds.

Secret Weapon. City Makes hidden weapon almost impossible to detect.

Serene Visage. SC Gain insight bonus on Bluff checks equal to half your level.

Shock and Awe. SC Flat-footed creatures get ?10 on initiative.

*Sidhelien Bow (Transmutation). Bow gains +1 to hit.

Silent Image. Creates minor illusion of your design.

Sleep. Put 2d4 HD of creatures into comatose slumber.

Sniper's Shot. CAdv, SC Swift. No range limit on next ranged sneak attack.

Sorrow. BoVD Subject takes ?3 penalty on attacks, saves, and checks.

Spontaneous Search. SC Instantly Search area as if having taken 10.

*Starry Sky (Divination). You gain +5 circums tance bonus to Intuit Direction.

Stupor BoVD One helpless subject is put in a state that allows him to be moved but take no other actions.

Summon Component. CMage Create a noncostly spell component.

Summon Monster I. Calls outsider to fight for you.

Suspend Disease. BoVD Keeps disease from harming creature for 24 hours.

Swift Expeditious Retreat. CAdv, SC Swift. Your speed increases by 30 ft. for 1 round.

Targeting Ray. SC You and allies are +1 to hit/3 levels against subject.

True Casting. CMage +10 on your next spell penetration roll.

True Strike. PHB +20 on your next attack roll.

Unseen Servant. Creates invisible force that obeys your commands.

Ventriloquism. Throws voice for 1 min./level.

Vigilant Slumber. CMage Set specific conditions under which you immediately wake up.

Whelm.PHB II Deal 1d6 nonlethal damage +1d6/2 levels above 1st (max 5d6).

Addiction. BoVD Subject becomes addicted to a drug.

Aiming at the Target. SC +10 bonus on Concentration checks for previously cast spell.

Allied Footsteps. CMage Subject knows direction and distance to your location.

Animal Trance. Fascinates 2d6 HD of animals.

Animalistic Power. PHB II Subject gains +2 bonus to Str, Dex and Con.

Arcane Lock. PHB Magically locks a portal or chest.

Arcane Turmoil. CMage Targeted dispel magic on one subject, and subject loses one spell.

Attentive Alarm. CMage As alarm, plus learn type and number of creatures that triggered alarm.

Balancing Lorecall. CAdv, SC You gain a +4 bonus on Balance checks and can balance on impossible surfaces if you have 5 or more ranks in Balance.

Baleful Transposition. SC Two subjects switch places.

Bear's Endurance. PHB Subject gains +4 to Con for 1 min./level.

Black Karma Curse. PHB II Subject damages self with melee attack.

Blade Brothers. PHB II Use highers saving throw result between two creatures, both suffer effects if the save fails.

Bladeweave. CAdv, SC Swift. Your melee attack dazes your opponent.

Blinding Color Surge. PHB II Blind subject for 1 round, gain inbisibility.

Blindness/Deafness. Makes subject blind or deaf.

Blur. Attacks miss subject 20% of the time.

Bull's Strength. Subject gains 1d4+1 Str for 1 hr./level.

Catapult. CSco Magically propel an object from your hand.

Cat's Grace. Subject gains 1d4+1 Dex for 1 hr./level.

Chain of Eyes. SC See through other creatures? eyes.

Continual Flame. Makes a permanent, heatless torch.

Cure Moderate Wounds. Cures 2d8 +1/level damage (max +10).

Darkness. 20-ft. radius of supernatural darkness.

Daylight. 60-ft. radius of bright light.

Daze Monster. PHB Living creature of 6 HD or less loses next action.

Detect Eleven Influence: Determine if elves have been in, near, or have magically influenced an area.

Delay Poison. Stops poison from harming subject for 1 hour/level.

Delusions of Grandeur.SC Subject thinks it is better than it is.

Detect Thoughts. Allows "listening" to surface thoughts.

Dimension Hop.PHB II Teleport subject short distance.

Discern Shapechanger. SC Penetrates disguises and identifies shapechanging creatures.

Dispelling Touch. PHB II Dispel one magical effect on touched subject.

Dissonant Chant. SC Concentration checks more difficult within area of spell.

Eagle's Splendor. PHB Subject gains +4 to Cha for 1 min./level.

Enthrall. Captivates all within 100 ft. + 10 ft./level.

Entice Gift. BoVD, SC Creature gives caster what it?s holding.

False Lie. CMage Subject seems to be lying, both to Sense Motive and divinations, even when she is not.

False Peacebond. City As peacebond, but subject can draw weapon freely.

*First Strike (Transmutation). Allies gain +4 bonus to initiative.

Fox's Cunning PHB Subject gains +4 to Int for 1 min./level.

Glitterdust. Blinds creatures, outlines invisible creatures.

Healing Lorecall. CAdv If you have 5 or more ranks in Heal, you can remove harmful conditions with conjuration (healing) spells.

Heroics. SC Fighter gains one fighter bonus feat.

Hold Person. Holds one person helpless for 1 round/level.

Hurl. SC Thrown weapon returns to thrower.

Hypnotic Pattern. Fascinates 2d4+1 HD/level of creatures.

Incendiary Slime. CMage Create slippery substance like grease, but highly flammable.

Insight of Good Fortune.PHB II Subject rolls twice, takes best result.

Insignia of Alarm. RoD Alert bearers of special insignia.

Invisibility. Subject is invisible for 10 min./level or until it attacks.

Iron Silence CAdv Armor touched has no armor check penalty on Hide and Move Silently for 1 hour/level.

Leomund's Trap. Makes item seem trapped.

Levitate. Subject moves up and down at your direction.

Leomund's Trap. PHB Makes item seem trapped.

Lesser Celerity. PHB II Take a move action immediately, but be dazed for 1 round.

Listening Lorecall. CAdv Gain +4 on Listen checks, plus blindsense or blindsight if you have 5 or more ranks in Listen.

Locate Object. Senses direction toward object (specific or type).

Lucky Streak. CSco Target gains +2 luck bonus on rerolls made with luck feats.

Magic Mouth. Speaks once when triggered.

Magic Savant. CMage Gain +4 bonus on Use Magic Device; take 10 on check if you have 10 ranks.

Marked Object. SC You gain bonus to track a specific being.

*Mask Bloodline (Illusion). Obfuscates the target's divine heritage.

Masochism. BoVD For every 10 hp damage caster takes, he gains +1 on attacks, saves, and checks.

Mindless Rage. CAdv, SC Target compelled to attack you physically for 1 round/level.

Minor Image. As silent image, plus some sound.

Mirror Image. Creates decoy duplicates of you (1d4 +1/three levels, max 8).

Misdirection. Misleads divinations for one creature or object.

*Misfortune (Enchantment). Target suffers a ?1 morale penalty.

Obscure Object. Masks object against divination.

Opportune Dodge. PHB Subject can avoid a single attack of opportunity.

Owl's Wisdom. PHB Subject gains +4 to Wis for 1 min./level.

Phanstasmal Assailants. SC Nightmare creatures strike target for 8 Wis damage, 8 Dex damage.
Phantom Foe. SC Subject is always flanked by one creature.

Proud Arrogance. RoD Targets gain +4 bonus on saves against charm, compulsion and fear.

Pyrotechnics. Turns fire into blinding light or choking smoke.

Ray of Stupidity. SC Victim takes 1d4+1 Intelligence damage.

Rebuke. SC Subject is dazed 1 round, then shaken.

Reflective Disguise. SC Viewers see you as their own species and gender.

Sadism. BoVD For every 10 hp damage caster deals, he gains +1 on attacks, saves, and checks.

Sap Strength. BoVD Subject becomes exhausted.

Scare. Panics creatures up to 5 HD (15-ft. radius).

Scent. CDiv Grants the scent special ability.

Shadow Mask. SC Grants +4 on saves against light spells, protection from gaze attacks.

Shadow Radiance. SC Area filled with intense light that grows brighter.

See Invisibility. Reveals invisible creatures or objects.

Share Talents. PHB II Subjects gain +2 bonus on skill checks.

Snake's Swiftness. SC Subject immediately makes one attack.

Soul of Anarchy. DM Gain +5 on Escape Artist checks and grapple checks to avoid being grappled, your natural weapons are chaotic-aligned, and you are treated as being chaotic-aligned for adjudicating effects.

Soul of Order. DM Gain +2 on Will saves to resist enchantments, your natural weapons are lawful-aligned, and you are treated as being lawful-aligned for adjudicating effects.

Speak to Allies. SC Subjects can converse at distance without moving lips.

Spymaster's Coin. CSco Hide a scrying sensor in a coin or other Tiny object for later activation.

Stay the Hand. PHB II Change subject creature's attitude to helpful for 1 round.

Sting Ray. SC Subject of ray can take only standard or move action, has ?2 AC, and must make Concentration checks to cast spells.

Summon Monster II. Calls outsider to fight for you.

Summon Swarm. Summons swarm of small crawling or flying creatures.

Surefooted Stride. SC You can move over rubble as easily as you can over open ground.

Sure Strike. PHB II Gain +1 bonus/3 levels on next attack.

Swift Invisibility. SC You are invisible for 1 round or until you attack.

Swim. CArc, SC Subject gains swim speed, +8 bonus on Swim checks.

Tasha's Hideous Laughter. Subject loses actions for 1d3 rounds.

Tongues. PHB Speak any language.

Torrent of Tears. CMage Subject is temporarily blinded and emotionally distraught.

Touch of Idiocy. PHB Subject takes 1d6 points of Int, Wis, and Cha damage.

Undetectable Alignment. Conceals alignment for 24 hours.

Vertigo. PHB II Subject creature must succeed on DC 10 Balance check to move each round.

Wall of Gloom. SC Shadow barrier obscures vision.

Wave of Grief. CDiv Cone imposes -3 penalty on attacks, checks and saves.

Whelming Blast. PHB II 15-foot cone deals 1d6 nonlethal damage/2 levels (max 5d6).

Whispering Wind. Sends a short message one mile/level.

Yoke of Mercy. BoED Target deals nonlethal damage.

Zone of Truth. Subjects within range cannot lie.

Adoration of the Frightful. DM Make fearful creatures friendly to you.

Alter Fortune. PHB II Cause one creature to reroll any die roll.

Arcane Sight. PHB Magical auras become visible to you.

Blink. You randomly vanish and reappear for 1 round/level.

Bothersome Babble. CMage Subject's speech becomes incoherent; second casting makes speech painful.

Circle Dance. SC Indicates direction to known individual.

Clairaudience/Clairvoyance. Hear or see at a distance for 1 min./level.

Cone of Dimness. SC Subjects believe they are engulfed in magical darkness.

Crown of Clarity. PHB II +2 to Listen and Spot, discharge spell to gain +8.

Crown of Might. PHB II Gain +2 Strength, discharge to gain +8 bonus for 1 round.

Cruel Disappointment. BoVD Fools subject for 1 round, then ?4 penalty on attacks, saves, and checks.

Cure Serious Wounds. Cures 3d8 +1/level damage (max +15).

Curse of the Putrid Husk. BoVD Subject is unconscious for 1d10 minutes.

Deceptive Facade. CMage Disguise appearance of another creature or object.

Deep Slumber. PHB Puts 10 HD of creatures to sleep.

Deeper Darkvision. SC Subject can see 90 ft. in magical darkness.

Devil's Eye. BoVD Caster can see in even magical darkness,up to 30 ft.

Dimension Step. PHB II Allies can immediately teleport a distance equal to their speed.

Disobedience. CSco Subject is shielded from mind control.

Dispel Magic. Cancels magical spells and effects.

Displacement. Attacks miss subject 50%.

Dolorous Motes. BoED Creates clouds of flickering light (1 10-ft. cube/level) that dazes creatures.
Elation. BoED Allies gain +2 to Strength and Dexterity, +5ft. of speed.

Enduring Scrutiny. CMage Become aware when target performs designated action.

Evil Eye. BoVD Subject takes ?4 penalty on attacks, saves, and checks.

Ferocity of Sanguine Rage. DM Gain bonus on melee damage rolls and one use of True Strike.

Gaseous Form. Subject becomes insubstantial and can fly slowly.

Glimpse of Truth. BoVD Caster gets an answer to a yes-or-no question.

Greater Mage Armor. CArc, SC Gives subject +6 armor bonus.

Greater Magic Weapon. +1 bonus/three levels (max +5).

Gust of Wind. Blows away or knocks down smaller creatures.

Halt. PHB II Subject's feet become stuck to the ground.

Haste. Extra partial action and +4 AC.

Healing Touch. SCHeal subject 1d6/2 levels, but take damage equal to half.

Heroism. PHB Gives +2 bonus on attack rolls, saves, skill checks.

Hesitate. PHB II Force subject to lose actions.

Hood of the Cobra. CMage You appear serpentine to target, and can deliver illusory poison bites.

Illusory Script. Only intended reader can decipher.

Inevitable Defeat. PHB II Subject takes 3d6 nonlethal damage/round.

Insignia of Healing. RoD Bearers of special insignia healed 1d8 damage +1 point/level (max +10)

Invisibility Sphere. Makes everyone within 10 ft. invisible.

Keen Edge. Doubles normal weapon's threat range.

Leomund's Tiny Hut. Creates shelter for 10 creatures.

Lesser Telepathic Bond. CDiv, SC As Rary's telepathic bond, but you and one other creature.

Magic Circle against Chaos/Evil/Good/ Law. As protection spells, but 10-ft. radius and 10 min./level.

*Mass Magic Weapons (Transmutation). Provides a deferred +1 magic bonus to one weapon/level.

Major Image. As silent image, plus sound, smell and thermal effects.

Mask of the Ideal. CMage Gain +4 bonus on skill checks, checks to influence enchanted or conjured creatures.

Mass Mage Armor. SC As mage armor, but one creature/level.

Mass Snake's Swiftness. SC Allies each immediately make one attack.

Mesmerizing Gaze. SC Your gaze fascinates creatures.

Miser's Envy. SC Subject jealously covets nearby object.

Nondetection. Hides subject from divination, scrying.

Pall of Twilight. CMage Veil of shadow impedes sight and sound.

Phantom Guardians. RoD Create illusion of group of guards.

Phantom Steed. Magical horse appears for 1 hour/level.

Rage. PHB Gives +2 to Str and Con, +1 on Will saves, ?2 to AC.

Reality Blind. BoVD Subject can take no actions and afterward does not heal naturally.

Refreshment. BoED Cures all nonlethal damage on one creature.

Remove Disease. Cures all diseases affecting subject.

Ray of Dizziness. SC Subject can take only move or standard actions.

Secret Page. PHB Changes one page to hide its real content.

Sepia Snake Sigil. Creates text symbol that immobilizes reader.

Servant Horde. SC Create 2d6 unseen servants +1/level (max +15).

Slow. One subject/level takes only partial actions, -2 AC, -2 melee rolls.

Spectral Weapon. CAdv Swift. Use quasi-real weapon to make touch attacks.

Speechlink. CAdv You and one other creature can talk, no matter how far apart.

Spellcaster's Bane. CMage Gain +2 on dispel, counterspell checks; recognize cast spell and caster level.

Suggestion. Compels subject to follow stated course of action.

Summon Monster III. Calls outsider to fight for you.

Suspended Silence. SC Object becomes programmed to create an area of silence at your command.

Tenacious Dispelling. CMage As targeted dispel magic, but second consecutive casting is more potent.

Tongues. Speak any language.

Unluck. SC Target remakes all rolls, uses worse result for 1 round/level.

Vertigo Field. PHB II Creatures have 20% miss chance and possibly become nauseated.

Warcry. BoED Creatures within 30-foot cone cower for 1d4 rounds.

Weapon of Impact. SC As keen edge, but aids bludgeoning weapons.

Whispering Sand. Sand Sand delivers your message.

Wind Wall. Deflects arrows, smaller creatures, and gases.

Winding Alleys. RoD Trap foe in phantasmal maze.

Arcane Eye. Invisible floating eye moves 30 ft./round.

Assay Spell Resistance. CArc, SC +10 bonus on caster level checks to defeat one creature's spell resistance.

Baleful Blink. PHB II Subject has 50% chance of failure on attacks and spells.

Battle Hymn. SC Allies can reroll one Will save/ round.

Bestow Curse. -6 to an ability; -4 on attacks, saves, and checks; or 50% chance of losing each action.

Blinding Beauty. BoED You become as beautiful as a nymph, and can blind humanoids who look at you.

Celerity. PHB II Take a standard action immediately, but be dazed for 1 round.

Charm Monster. Makes monster believe it is your ally.

Confusion. Makes subject behave oddly for 1 round/level.

Corrupt Summons. BoVD Creates area where only evil creatures can be summoned.

Create Fetch. CSco Craft a temporary duplicate of yourself that follows telepathic orders.

Nightmare Terrain. CMage Create patch of illusory terrain that hinders foes and allows you to hide.

Perfect Summons. BoED Creates area where only good creatures can be summoned.

Phantom Battle. PHB II Illusion of battle flanks creatrures and denies attack of opportunity.

Phantasmal Killer. Fearsome illusion kills subject or deals 3d6 damage.

Rainbow Pattern. Lights prevent 24 HD of creatures from attacking or moving away.

Remove Curse. Frees object or person from curse.
