The Well of Memories is an enchanted well which people can visit and drop messages in, and retrieve the previous messages from those long departed (i.e., those not there). It was once a common lover's tryst, a place for secret meetings, but many would leave tokens and secret coded messages for each other in and around the well. Eventually someone discovered that if you left your message in the well, then it may be delivered to your recipient once they arrived, even if it was days, months or even years later. As such, the well became thought of as a record of memories, not just messages.

Some scholars argue that it is the land who is remembering the messages, not the well itself, and that this is a caerbhaighlien, but none have been able to draw mebhaighl from within it. Others have unsuccessfully tried to link to it with leylines.

[top]Plots and Rumours

  • Some messages have been heard, but no-one is sure who they come from. Normally the messages are left for a particular recipient, but these ones have no clear audience and it is not clear who left them.
  • An artificer/wizard is trying to drop in a device they call an articulating inscriber instead of an already written message, because they want to remotely generate the message, rather than have to visit the well.
  • The well doesn't seem to work at all for the Sidhelien. They can neither leave nor receive messages.
  • A group of Vos bards have allegedly been using it to contact the dead and not everyone is grateful about this.
