Ambush (Ex): The Watch Guardians are skilled at catching foes off-guard and wounding them badly. This is a similar ability to the sneak attack of rogues, but with a more limited applicability

this begs for some clarification IMHO... What do you mean by more limited applicability? When can you use it? When can you not? Does it stack with the Sneak Attack? (probably yes)

And isn't poison use an ability associated with evil?

What! There are humans that live in the Giantdowns! Are they insane or just stupid?
And there is a group dedicated to protecting them!
If you cant handle yourself, then what are you doing living in the Giantdowns?!

I thought the humans in Dhoesone where foolhardy....

Other than the flavor text (see my above incredulity), this is a good PrC.
A nice short progression which is centered on the area and group's special knowledge. Brings the group to life nicely. While this set of abilites doesnt fit the Erebannien rangers, this kind of theme cohesion is what they need.

More specifically (just to satisfy the urge to fiddle):
The skill requirements could be bumped up a little.
Craft(traps) might be good skill to add, given the poison angle.

I think the ambush ability is supposed to be the same as sudden strike of the ninja from the complete adventurer.
Innuendo, intuit direction, and Wilderness lore no longer exist.
Knowledge(local) should be a class skill, for i would assume they would have good knowledge of the giant downs.
The herbalist poison brewing is a lot faster and cheaper than craft(poisons).
The non poisons should probably be craft(alchemy).
They should probably get a bonus to knowledge(local) in the giant downs.

FYI: for 3.5 BRCS, this would actually be Knowledge (Regional): Giantdowns.

The group, and the giantdowns in general, were covered somewhat in the Rjurik Highlands supplement.

    And I would say they're insane :P

The sourcebook exclusively on the giantdowns (an excellent campaign) also details the group extensively.
