Omadi was born in Ariya to poor parents who died of illness when he was young. He grew up a footloose urchin in the beggars' quarters, surviving by his wits and his fast tongue. One day a passing magician discerned Omadi's bloodline and he took him as an apprentice. But Omadi, though bright, had no talent for magic. The magician then passed him to a friend merchant, and there he excelled. His talent for negotiating and salesmanship brought him wealth and eventually leadership of the Gold Coast Coster.
