Well, I for one missed it, 'cause, like dude, I'm new to this discussion
group. Thanks to Sepsis for actually responding to the q, though. Now, from
what I heard, they plan on releasing a BR hardback in '98, and changing the
emphasis of the gameword a bit (from what I hear, to be less unique and
closer to another FR clone; but that's just B&Ming on my part based on
scanty info). To Paul; Even if you and your players don't plan on
ruling/having them rule realms, I'd recomend BR. It's got a lot of detail
(especially for a "new" campaign world), and gives you as DM, and your
players, a lot of options. It's got a feel all its own, and, I'm thinking,
would be a nice change of pace for the experienced dudes, while not being
overwhelming for the new players (i.e. not every two bit villiage they run
accross will have its own pet archmage, monsters are varied, but not
overwhelmingly so; so the old hands will have variety, but the new guys
won't half to learn about hundreds of different creatures, spells, etc.)
Good place to start is to buy (or at least look at a friend's) a copy of
the BR boxed set; it has the rulebook for the unique stuff in the setting,
a map of the entire continent of Cerilia, and a map and gazzeteer of a big
portion of it, a good place to start a campaign out; all in one box (rather
than the dozen or so for other campaign worlds). The other accessories are
reasonably priced, and provide a good bit of broad info on just about
everywhere, allowing you as the DM to fill in the details as you wish; just
reading it will give you plenty of ideas for adventures, intrigues, etc.
(and your more encouraged to change even the broad outlines provided in
this campaign world if you don't like 'em than you are in most of the
others).

Isn't there a digest where old discussions are stored?

What about somebody compiling a FAQ for the group to be sent out maybe
once a week?

Before anyone points at me for the FAQ, let me say "NO", handling the
Logo voting contest is quite enough for me right now.

Well so far Ed has been a little close-mouthed about the new Hardcover, but
we do know this. The new HC will put more emphasise on role-playing, and
the Anuirian culture. The Domain rules are supposed to be made
simpler(maybe), and placed as an appendix in the back of the book. BR's
uniqueness will remain intact, and if anything this HC will only add to the
richness of the setting. Don't worry, I'm sure the HC will only add not
take away. Ed has said we will hear more about it when it gets closer to
publishing time, so we will just have to wait. :)
