RAI
RAI is commonly used in roleplaying for "Rules As Intended", meaning that the rules should be followed based on what they were intended to do, and as such do not have to be taken solely as written. Consideration can be made about why the rules were created and what the designer's intent was for the rules.
This is also sometimes treated as "Rules As Interpreted", such that a campaign may take the rules to be understood in a particular fashion that may not literally correspond to the way that they are written.
The alternative to RAI is RAW - Rules As Written.
