    Question The Wizard

Has anyone ever used The Wizard in their campaigns?

I've used the character to "fullfil" a prophecy found in the Player's Secrets of Binsada, "the queen of Binsada will stand before the iron throne". She has been the start of a few rebellions in the empire, and she has an adversarial relationship with a PC in my campaign.

I'm curious how others have applied her and what plots she might be up to. Has she been used as a "random" magical domain event or has she had more nafarious and far reaching plots?

Not much appears about her except in the 2E Ruins of Empire and the book War.

My problem in using the Wizard is her motivations, they simply aren't coherently explained. I could of course make some up for her, but if I'm doing that I probably wouldn't use a pre-generated character in the first place.

I think that she's basically meant to be the "agent of chaos" who "stirs things up", but anarchy being an inherently unproductive outcome, why does she bother? What is she after? What makes the chaos worthwhile?

The book war shows her interfering in the Avan:Boeruine conflict, so she may want to either keep the houses at loggerheads or re-unite them (depending on why you think she involved herself). A grudge against one family justifies her providing help (if need be) or hindrance to those involved in the conflict.

A desire to re-unite the families is however in my view a more interesting approach, particularly given her long life - if she sees the family as the "good" thing then "pruning" the family tree to improve it's chances is a possibility meaning that she could be both friend and foe to people supporting / opposing one of the families depending on the individuals involved - and in particular their impact on future generations.

The wizard could use a multiplicity of persona's but in practice there aren't that many wizards around so I'd expect to see her with a single court-mage role at most (to keep her in luxuries and give her somewhere pleasant to stay) with perhaps one or two identities as travelling diplomats, mysterious hermits, etc for use on an ad hoc basis.
