Probably not, it's just that no one would believe them...

I like the idea of them leaving a place and forever hankering after it,
but never able to return. I think these sorts of details don't need to
be fixed until the spell is about to be used, and then I would probably
make the decision based upon what would have the most potential for a
good story.

Well, a level 9 source, plus an Enhance Source Realm Spell and a
Mebghail Stone (from the BoM) can get you up to level 13, and this isn't
counting phenomena like Dragon bones & underground rivers.

It's possible, but not easy.
