    Vos Strength

I am relatively new to playing birthright and I just have a quick question for
your minds. I am in the process of rolling up a new character, a Vos Fighter,
and for his rolled strength score, I rolled a 18. Now Vos get a +1 to strength
so does that mean that he is 19 strength or do I roll the percentile and get
like, 18/56 and then add the one to make it 18/57. Sorry about such a newbie
question its just i am not used to the birthright rules yet.

    Thanks for your Help

As a standing rule for *any* campaign I've always assumed racial bonuses to
Strengths of 18 always adds +10% per point to the Characters Exceptional
Strength. Using your above example, the Character rolling 18/56 would have
his Strength bumped up to 18/66. While this may not be a big deal at first,
it can be a significant advantage later in the campaign when the PC
encounters other things that may boost his/her Strength (permanently or
not). For instance a BA that boosts his Strength again would add 10% per
additional point. As you can see if various bonuses continue to accrue the
PC can become a true powerhouse.

I've allways used this too, considering each Exceptional Strength bracket
to be a "full point" in stat allocation. But Sepsis has the right of it
when the game actually begins in that every kind of bonus above 16 (wishes,
etc.) only give a 10% bonus to the stat, thus requiring a total of 10
wishes to go from 17 to 18, 18 to 19, etc. As far as a blood ability
gained in play, I would treat it the same as a wish.

I settled on the "pre-game" bit of this to ease out some arguments with
players. I personally felt that just giving them a 10% bonus really was
nothing during character creation. I don't know, it sure can be... but
whoever heard of starting with a fighter at 17.10 STR? Well... except for
    1st ed cavaliers anyhow :)

Simple: IF you get something between 18.01 and 18.50you get 18.51, if you
roll between 18.51 and 18.75 you´ll get 18.76 and so on ( skip one "level"
    of exceptional strength).

On this I agree, when first creating a Character I allow bonuses to boost
Strength (and other Stats) full points up to 18. But beyond 18 it still is
treated as 10% per point. Often this means Strength bonuses for PCs who
already have 18 Strengths mean very little at first, but in the long run it
can be a big help (as per the BA example). BTW, I use the same ruling when
draining Strength, each point drained eats up 10% of the Exceptional Score
before lowering the prime Stat. This is another good example of the value
of 10% bonuses gained at the time of creation, it could make the difference
between dropping a category or getting to strike at the monster with your
    "real" Strength one more time.

I've always understood this to only count for wishes - magical books,
artifacts and other miscellaneous gubbins will raise a stat above 16 by
a full point. I think the 1st edition DMG justifies this as a means to
prevent high level characters (who presuambly have access to bucket
loads of wishes) from boosting all their stats up to 20-odd.
