Power of Faerun
The upcoming "Power of Faerung" seems to have some rules for
political games, eg. running a court, temple or guild.
Maybe this is also something for our community. What do you think of
this? Does anybody have this already?
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20060308amy purpose is now to lead you into the Pallace where you shall have a clear and delightful view of all those various objects, and scattered excellencies, that lye up and down upon the face of creation, which are only seen by those that go down into the Seas, and by no other....

I've read it and I'm not enchanted already, but I will buy this book absolutely.
Ed Greenwood is a designer I love for a lot of little magical ideas as I find in Volo Guides, but as a rulemaker he's too generous for me.

While I'm fairly ambivalent about most FR material, I usually run a mile from anything with Ed Greenwood's name on it, especially his novels which are among the worst I've ever read (well except for the Baldur's Gate novels...)
I might take a look at this book next time I'm passing through my local gaming store though.Let me claim your Birthright!!

I read "Powers of Faerun".
I made 3 pages of notes full of little ideas I plan to use in my future games. I made a copy of some high level NPC statblocks and floor-plans. And I sold PoF away.
IMHO this is no bad book, it has AD&D feel, full of Ed Greenwood's little brilliant ideas, but it's not what I expected as a BIRTHRIGHT dungeon master.
You find no domaing management system in PoF, not many prestige classes, spells, magic items and supplementary rules. There is almost no crunch. But there are many fluff such as exapmles of court intrigues or internal conflicts within the army.
Most of game rules contents of PoF is (repeated in the chapters about court, army, law, guilds and church) debate about Leadership feat. IMHO this feat it's one of the most anti-heroic things in D&D. In simplicity leadership feat makes you attractive for hundreds of unprofessional but fully equiped cannon fodder who wants to work for you without wage and all lost cannon fodder respawn after you loose it. The best use of this feat is to attract as many cannon fodder as possible, kill them, sell their's equipement and hire proffesionals instead. ... So ... as you see I can't be impressed with any debate about Leadership feat. And PoF is full of exaplmes how many (count in thousands) 1-level War1 has temple of morginglord.
