Dragon Mag for Halloween
Hey Group!
I was just thumbing through the latest issue of Dragon at the drug store
(now that's freaky) and read a really good article about the "Keepers of the
Veil". The article detailed four kits and the history of and organization
that essentially spawned them all.
The material was really good as a stand alone, but it seemed quite relevant
to Birthright as it dealt with people who have a vested interest in the
undead. The obvious correlation to the Shadow World and BR sprang to mind
for me. The "Veil" was a very interesting order of paladins and priests etc.
and it can be used from any point in its historical description (though the
descriptive narrative isn't huge, there is enough to flesh the order out
quite nicely) as a
model of a quasi religious/quasi law based order.
If anyone has seen this I'd like to trade comments. Don't get me wrong, 10+
messages a day on alignment are just dandy, but this seems a bit more
"fresh" for the inbox.
If you have yet to see the article, I reccomend checking it out.

I used this article to help flesh out an organization I called the Shadow
Riders in my campaign founded by one of my players. You notice that in the
Meodore sourcebook that there was a sword that was a holy avenger in the
hands of a paladin of Ruornil. Unfortunately, the Book of Priest's says
that there is no paladin's for Ruornil. Here I bent the rules (okay, broke
them) by saying that it is stated that Ruornil fights against the incursion
of the shadow across Cerilia. Well, what is more tangible then the undead
or the wizards that play with the Shadow World. In my campaign the mages
and few wizards that made up the Order of the Veil (originally in my
campaign the Watchers of the Wall) were a secret order reinforcing the Wall
between the Shadowworld and this one. After a very bloody battle between
the Watchers and the One True Church of Vosgaard's priests and warriors
where the Watchers as an organization were nearly wiped, a order of
warriors were formed to protect the Watchers. They were a secret sect,
appearing battling the danger to the Wall and leaving with no mark to their
presence. They finally obtained paladin status when one of the order used
the Sword of Meodore to stop Diemed's invading armies. Unfortunately, the
mages and wizards grew jealous of their prestige and one of the wizards, a
unknown necromancer, betrayed the order and framed the order, showing that
they could possibly be in league with Diemed all along. The high preistess
of Meodore banished the order and so the order still remains but has
returned to its secret ways.
