[top]Biography:

Ulrich Maus, a Brecht, was born into a middle-class family of merchants. Unfortunately for him, he showed little interest in business and quickly fell into disfavor with his parents. Having given up all hope of Ulrich into a competent businessman, his parents looked for another profession for him and quickly found it in a local shipyard. Ulrich worked as a simple shipwright's assistant for a long time until a captain commissioning a new ship noticed his physical strength and ease of movement and hired him to serve on the newly built ship. After years of service on vessels sailing in the pirate-ridden Great Bay and many survived boardings, Urlich became a veteran ship guard and master of Black Strike fencing.
With his advancing age and close to inevitable retirement, Ulrich Maus went to visit his family on an extended shore leave while his ship was being repaired. Coincidentally, his distant cousin from Anuire, Michael Agnelie, member of an Anuirean trading family, came to a visit as well. Interested in the Brecht combat style called Black Strike, Michael asked to hire Ulrich as an instructor, and Ulrich, already considering a new profession and having nothing against earning some extra gold while on shore leave, gladly agreed. When Michael Agnelie received a letter that urgently summoned him back to Roesone to assume the office of Lord Mayor of Proudglaive, previously occupied by his late cousin. With desire to continue his training in Black Strike and in need of loyal servants of his own, Michael asked Ulrich to accompany him to Roesone and enlist in his service once they arrive. Ulrich happily agreed to this proposal and quickly proved his worth to his employer, gaining an appointment to the office of Constable of Proudglaive.
Ulrich Maus is now the Lord Mayor's chief assistant, directly responsible for patrolling the streets and overseeing the city watch.
