[top]Biography:

Wincae Raenech is the Storm's Prefect of the Church of Storm's Height. He is also the cousin of Jaison Raenech, the Duke of Osoerde.
Wincae Raenech is a supporter of his cousin Jaison Raenech, but he is not without qualms about the oppression in Osoerde. While the realm endures civil war, Wincae supports the strong ruler needed to stop the realm dissolving while desperately trying to ameliorate the worst excesses of the state. These he believes stem from Terence Gryphon, Inquisitor of Osoerde. Both men support Jaison, but each seeks to influence the crown for different ends. Wincae doubts that he is winning this contest and blames the civil war. Even so, the best way out is through, so Wincae throws himself into the conflict in hopes that with bold action and decisive victory, peace and a restoration of good government will prevail. He trusts that Jaison will restore right government.
His order is divided in its support for Duke Jaison and his rival, William Moergen. This doesn't trouble Wincae, whose concern isn't so much for which side prevails, as that each man throws himself entirely into his cause and fight as hard as the most destructive storm. Even so, he respects William the pretender, for he is a man of honor and conviction, a worthy opponent.
Wincae's other major concern is the cult of Belinik. Wincae has his temple embrace fighting for its own sake as a religious duty. Others of Cuiraécens followers prefer to fight for honor or freedom. But Belinik's doctrine is for the strong to oppress the weak and lord over them brutally and violently. This principle Wincae rejects entirely, though many in his order struggle with a right understanding of their own strength and whether that implies a duty to serve or a right to command. Down this path lies a series of temptations to use strength not for glory, honor, freedom, and the good, but for power, oppression, obedience, and fear. If Wincae found out who was supporting the True Church of Vosgaard they would become his true enemy even if turned out to be his own kinsman.
