[top]Biography:

The house of Dhariel is one of the great houses of the Northern Marches. Their scions are famed for questing and for heroic deeds. Their lineage can be traced to within 200 years of Deismaar, though it is unclear which of several champions of Masela is the founder of this line.
Vertico's father, Gwenaël the Bold won his bride, Ivinie Cariele, after many challenges and the resistance of Daenel Cariele, her brother and Baron of Cariele. They adventured together and eventually settled in Dharilein, where in time, Gwenaël succeeded his father and became Count of Dharilein. Vertico was born, auspiciously on the 12th of Haelynir, and Brunhilde Dhoesone was said to predict many victories and much honor in the future of the infant.

Vertico's father had him fostered as a page in the house of Aulay Dhariel, his cousin, and Count of Hidaele. Vertico was then fostered in the temple of Haelyn with Gwenaël's friend, James Ardannt, a rising figure in Haelyn's Bastion of Truth. James took the boy under his wing and gave him a powerful education in the teachings of Haelyn, chivalry, and the duties of a noble. Even today this teaching is evident in Vertico, and his honor is renown. Vertico still regards James Ardannt as his mentor and is a strong ally of the priest.

When Vertico had completed his training with James, he was knighted by the Baroness, Fhiele Dhoesone, at which occasion it is said, that his sister, Aithne first met her future husband, Daeric Dhoesone. Vertico's first meeting of his love would wait another year until the visit of his father's sometime adventuring companion, Shaene Mhoried. The old rogue was up to his old tricks as usual, and brought his daughter, Lileas Mhoried along with hopes of a match to Vertico. Old Gwenaël saw right through his old friend, as he always had, but indulged him again, as he found the girl worthy of the highest regard. James Ardannt, another from the old adventures, and mentor of young Vertico, happily performed the marriage. Several years have now passed since their marriage and they have an infant son, Amaury.

Vertico is the principle noble on the border with the Blood Skull Barony and is tasked with primary defense against the Blood Skullers. Though he is interested in the recent liberation of the Old Fort of Lemnjohen, but cannot take much time or effort away from his primary duties facing the Blood Skullers. He has sent some ammunition and supplies for a siege, and has promised to send food if the Blood Skullers do not compel him to use it for his troops. It is doubtful he could do more unless he was able to inflict a decisive defeat on the Scarlet Baron to insure their silence for a season to two.
