The shield is primarily a handheld defensive barrier for a person, commonly made of wood, metal and leather. It can be various sizes and shapes, including rectangles, circles and the heater, which has a straight top and a curved bottom. Use of a shield will normally require use of at least one hand but will improve the armor class of a character.
