[top]Category naming

When adding a category to the below list, please observe the following guidelines:
[list][*]Put category names in Title Case (i.e. capitalize all words except prepositions).
[/redirect]
*Right: Category:Rubber Duckies
:*Wrong: Category:rubber duckies
*Wrong: Category:Rubber duckies
[list][*]Categories should usually be plural:
[/redirect]
*Right: Category:Boxes
:*Wrong: Category:Box
[list][*]In cases where the category might be confused with another one, you should add the parents name to it.
[/redirect]
*Example: There was a Category:Druid item under Category:Classes, and a Category:Druid under Category:Talents. Therefore, the one that would be parent to the other (Category:Druid (Class) would not fit in Category:Druid Talents, but Category:Druid Talents would fit in Category:Druid (Class) ) becomes the old name.
:*Right: Category:Druids - Referring to class
*Right: Category:Druids (Talents)
:*Wrong: Category:Druids (Class)
*Wrong: Category:Druids - Referring to talents
[list][*]Only make categories for the most general of things - for instance, a Category:Air Elementals is redundant at this point - there are less than 10 pages that would go in the category.
[/redirect]
*A good rule of thumb is that if it is not listed on this list and you want to create it, it should have 15 or so already existing articles that would fit within it. Else, it probably isn't needed. If those few pages absolutely need to be linked among one another, you should add a 'see also' section at the bottom of them with links to eachother. (See Template for helpful information about using templates for this!)
:*Sometimes there is a specific reason that a category with less than 15 articles would still be listed here - for instance, a Category:Classes is a kind of given, even though it would have only 9 articles.
*Exceptions: Some categories will have very few or no articles but will serve as parents to other categories, for instance Category:Classes holds only 9 articles, but is parent to many categories (a talent sub-category for each class like Category:Druid Talents, a abilities sub-category for each class such as Category:Druid Abilities, and other sub-categories) - in this case it need not have many or even any articles in it.

[top]Category page content

[list][*]Substantive content should not be included on a category page, but placed on a separate article page.
[/redirect]
*e.g., Cooking and Cooking
[list][*]The category page should contain only a precise description of what sort of articles belong in that category.
[/redirect]
*Describe what sort of articles do not belong, as well as the sort that do belong.

[top]Old categories and redirects

When a category is deprecated, either by being renamed or otherwise, never make it a redirect to anywhere else. The reason is that the category then remains as a usable category, and articles can be filed under it, but it is impossible to view its contents for the average wiki visitor.
Just by having the category, we run the risk of articles ending up in it, from habit or mistakes, and there's nothing to tell the author that it's wrong, since the category link is blue like it should be.

So, when you deprecate a category:
[list][*] Mark it for speedy deletion and explain that it is deprecated.
[*] If there is substantive content on the page that is still relevant, it can simply be moved to a new category page, or, preferably, to a regular page (see earlier sections).
[/redirect]

If you find an existing category page that is a redirect:
[list][*] Move any articles that have been added to the category after it being made a redirect (not uncommon) to the new category that was being pointed to.
[*] Mark the category for speedy deletion.
[/redirect]
