Typical Dialogue:

Grieve not for my men baroness, they died saving ten times their number. I shall send word to milord Archduke of their fate and your gratitude - I will ask him for further troops that we might drive out these giants - if such meets with your approval of course.
Bah! Wizardry! Give me three feet of honest steel over it anyday! What good ever came from sorcery? Elven tricks and Shadow-work the lot of it!

[top]Biography:

Pierden Brodig is the captain of the Grey Banner, a unit of pikemen. The unit currently serves in Dhoesone.

When Dhoesone called for aid, Boeruine sent Captain Brodig and a core of veterans to train native militia into elite pike. The Boeruine troops fared badly in battles against the giants and only Captain Brodig and half a dozen veterans survived a brutal battle at Harper's Point - the captain's men courageously formed a rearguard action to slow the assault of the giants allowing many of the inhabitants to flee. Captain Brodig has been training pikemen for the Baroness since the battle of Harper's Point but most of these youths have yet to reach military status.

Captain Brodig is a fervent follower of the Northern Imperial Temple and has frequently spoken against the Celestial Jewel of Sarimie and the rapacious guilders. If not for his constant conflicts with Viscount Afrindunn and not so subtle hints about the value of his master's friendship he would be welcomed with open arms by the Baroness.

Brodig has deep pockets - for causes that support Boeruine - and a lot of friends amongst the survivors of Harper's Point and other Dhoesoneans. Brodig has sent word to Boeruine and hopes that the loss of influence since the death of his men will soon be remedied for it galls him to see the knights of Avanil constantly winning praise through their martial prowess.

[top]Ties that bind

One of the men lost at Harper's Point was a young squire from Seasedge that had won the favor of Brodig's niece and wore a brooch from her as a luck charm. Brodig has heard rumors of strange magic possessed by the giants and would like the brooch recovered before it is used to ensorcel his niece; he also wants the squire and other soldiers who fell to be given a good Haelynite burial, he would deal with this himself but he has his duties elsewhere and has so far been unable to locate suitable allies to aid him.
