Description: Oelin is much less barrel-chested than his full brother, Aeric Boeruine. He doesn't look as imposing, nor does he look as blundering. Oelin seems to inherit their father, Eldried's, frame more than Aeric did. Oelin still has the red hair that marks the Boeruine bloodline.

Typical dialogue:

"Aeric, have you not considered the ramifications of your plan? The last time we invaded Taeghas, we were beaten back with considerable candor."

"Yes, brother. I have heard your blustering comments over our genealogy several times."

"Aeric, that's my best oak table! Why can't you control your temper?"

[top]Biography:

Oelin Boeruine is the full brother of Aeric Boeruine, Oelin was born to Marianne Avan and begotten by Eldried Boeruine before he slew the Awnshegh and became the Rake. Oelin and Aeric had three half-sisters, who were begotten by Borric Boeruine. Eldried begotten him not in a drunken stupor, but one last farewell night with Marrianne before he went to fight the Elf's forces. Marrianne, fearful for her life and still his lawful wife, consented to him and bore Oelin nine months later.

Oelin is everything Aeric is not: dependable, smart, soft spoken, and reserved. In fact, he was approached by wizards several times in order to be trained as a wizard; but Oelin chose to train as a Knight of Boeruine so that he could watch over his elder brother. However, after his days as a Page were over, Oelin was sent to Roesone to be a Squire in the Roesonian court.

It is rumored that he met the young Marlae Roesone, who was also training to become a capable swordswoman in her own right. Although they spent a lot of time together, they did not become lovers despite rumors to the contrary. They are, in fact, best friends. However, after Donald Boeruine started his war with Sethien Avan, Oelin was called back; where his gifts in strategy and tactics could be put to use.

It was his strategy that led to the defeat of the Avan forces that day, which also led to his Grandfather's and Sethien's deaths. He was awarded with his own Coat of Arms as part of his acknowledgment as a hero.

Oelin then did his duty and took a wife. To help cement ties with Ghoere, Oelin took Gavin Tael's youngest sister -- Jacquelyne Tael -- in marriage. Oelin loved his wife, but he still maintained ties with Marlae Roesone. However, Jacquelyne was sickly, due to her mother's forceful upbringing. The young maid died within ten years of their marriage due to Scarlet Fever. Jacquelyne gave Oelin two sons and two daughters before she died. Henry Boeruine is the elder son, Lance Boeruine is the younger. Marianne Boeruine is the elder daughter, Niela Boeruine is the younger daughter.

When Jacquelyne died, Gavin Tael formally broke any alliance with Boeruine. After Aeric took the throne of the Archduchy, Gavin declared himself as a rival. However, blood is still thicker than water and Divine Blood even more so. As a result, Gavin is fostering Oelin's youngest son, Lance Boeruine, in his court. Gavin's influence on his youngest leaves Oelin with a bit of concern. If Lance comes back, Oelin is afraid of what Gavin is teaching him.

Lately, Oelin has been acting as Aeric's conscience. He has been a stopgap for Aeric's temper for a long time, and Aeric frequently visits his brother on certain matters.

[top]DM's Options

A DM who is into Intrigue might set up a possible scenario for a PC regent of Roesone by adding one thing: Oelin Boeruine and Marlae Roesone did, in deed, have a child. If the Roesone succession turns out to be a crisis, Marlae and Oelin's child can come out of obscurity and claim the throne based on his or her greater birthright (as a Scion of a Great Bloodline).

Alternatively, Aeric could have been slain and his successor slain. This means that a PC who is from a possible union can claim the Archduchy. These two scenarios can make for a great campaign.
