"Raise those shields men, let us defy their bows and show them how a Rjuvik karl stands against them. Once they are committed, we shall counterattack and win the day."
[top]Biography:
Hulak Ivarsson is the Eorl of Hjarrsmark. He is the son of Ivar Hulaksson, and one of the two eorls whose family is older than Fulgar's reign.
Hulak had originally been having difficulty with the old king of Rjuvik, Edvard Halvarsson, and when he was deposed, Hulak had just taken to his longhouse. Fulgar had the good sense to reach out to Hulak. What Fulgar had to offer, besides being the new ruler of the country, was more coin than Rjurik king's typically knew. Hulak was partly accommodating himself to the new order, but in part he was awed by the riches he was allowed to acquire and receive. Over time he acclimated himself to the new values of the regime. While he clearly got along better with Fulgar's warriors than he did with his guildsmen, Hulak found a place in the new regime. Hulak's brother, Aethelfrith Ivarsson died in combat with the Bloodskull raiders, and his son was raised under the influence of the skald, Redmund the White. The boy, Aethelwulf Aethelfrithsson, fell in with a group of young rebellious nobles who wanted the re-assertion of the old noble code of honor and justice, protection of the people, and suppression of the bandits. Eventually Aethewulf had to flee Rjuvik, and now lives in Halskapa as a huskarl.
