Harran is the son of Neirin Tielen and Anwen Baccaere. He was tutored by Paden Hedley, a renown bard of Cuiraécen and herald of the Archduchy.
Harran was once the Surveyor of Woods, executing all the decisions in the Archduchy concerning agriculture and ore mining. In a secret arrangement, Harran accepted bribes from Storm Holtson in exchange for assisting with the export of ores.

However, in 549 MR, Arien Borthien and the Raelnien Family pushed him out of the Archduke's entourage and he retired to his county. The rumors say that he was beginning to see what the Raelniens and the guild master were planning and was about to tell Aeric Boeruine about it. It is said that Borthien came to him with a very good reason to 'accept' his exile from the capital, but no one knows what it was.

He is married to Dáire Khorien, daughter of Roger Khorien and Aurelia Boeruine. They have two daughters and a son.
