[top]Biography:

Harlmut Verwalter is the regent of the King's Men as the Steward of Grabentod.
Harlmut's full name is Harlmut Yegorovich, Jonkheer of Grabentod. His father, Yegor Urilovich, was a pirate captain in his own right and trusted man of the late King Harlmut Graben. Yegor's nickname was "King's Wrath" and for his efforts he was awarded with lands he can call his own. His firstborn son was named in the king's honor, and his children grew up in the court with the children of the king, Harlmut Graben. There young Harlmut learned his courtly skills and manners and his fighting skills sharpened aboard many pirate ships of Grabentod.
In those days Harlmut became a friend with a young prince Albrecht Graben and the two had many adventures in the open seas. Albrecht was a brute with a vile temper and Harlmut was always there to talk them out of trouble. Some, however, suggest that Harlmut had something with the unfortunate deaths of prince's older siblings, a rumour no one dares to speak out loud. In the days of Albrecht's reign, Harlmut was his right hand man, his chief diplomat, head adviser, lord of the treasury room. Albrecht's daring pirate raids made many pirates rich, while Harlmut made them to invest their riches in Grabentod, and thus they became one of the strongest realms in the Great Bay.
Harlmut was opposed to the king's idea of imposing a tax on the whole Great Bay, but the king was determined to go that way and his bold claim led to the war against Müden, Zweilunds, Danigau and many others. The war was lost, the king was captured and now rots in the dungeons of Müden, and most of the fleet was destroyed by the enemies. Harlmut managed to save part of the fleet and with their help, his political skill, close connection to the king, and access to the treasury he suppressed all other pretenders. His diplomatic skills helped him to bring an end to the war, he promised that Greber ships will not attack fleets of Danigau and Müden, and king remains in captivity as a warrant for his word, and he made some sort of a secret agreement with the Island Mage. When the strongest realms signed the peace treaty, other countries followed and made their peace with Grabentod.
Harlmut's position in Grabentod is not safe yet, many of the king's officials haven't joined his cause yet, and a few have arisen to openly challenge him. Loyal Union questions the king's rights, and by doing so they question the rights of the steward. Now both factions are fighting each other in southern provinces of the kingdom. The bigger problem for the steward is rise of Parniel Bowspear, who has climbed the ranks of King's Men and taken control of their northern operations. He still recognizes the sovereignty of the king and remains part of the King's Men, but he started to question Harlmut's position as a steward.
