Time, seasons, and holidays » Gretchen's flight
This festival, which occurs on the 15th of Pasiphel, celebrates a young druid named Gretchen. The tribe she watched over was faced with starvation during a severe winter, so Gretchen set out to seek help from a nearby settled village that she hoped would have stores of food. Gretchen was however attacked by goblins in the Blood Skull Barony, she took the form of a deer and led them away from the villages, which would have been raided by the goblins and fled instead 10 leagues (it is said) pursued by the goblins before reaching the safety of Viborg in Rjuvik, she lived long enough to gasp out news of her tribe's plight before dying of exhaustion, because of the speed of her flight the hunters of Viborg (then good followers of Erik) were able to reach her tribe with supplies before her people starved.
The Rjurik now celebrate Gretchen?s flight as a symbol of the lengths that the druids will go to succor the Rjurik people. Typically a young druid shape-changes into a deer, wolf, or other swift animal and is chased by hunters between two villages, or two other gathering spots followed by a great feast. It is also a time for gifts to be given to druids by all Rjurik, and for gifts to be exchanged between settled and nomadic Rjurik. Many of the hunters of the Rjurik also see it as a day to avenge Gretchen by slaying a goblin hunter.
