Under Feudalism, a fief is a grant of land or other income in exchange for a pledge of service. It could be the right to collect tolls on the Black River, five manors in Coeranys, or the province of Udvika. A noble grants a portion of his own fief to another person, making the granter a liege and receiver a vassal.
The most common form of fief is a manor or a group of several manors
