Erik's May

Time, seasons, and holidays » Erik's May
Erik's May is a feast of celebration in the month of Roelir. After a long winter, once the planting is done, the Rjurik people are ready for a feast and a festival. Erik is associated with spring, when green returns and winter's cold bite wanes. Places sacred to Erik tend to look like perpetual spring-time. So spring is a time to celebrate Erik's giving to and protecting his people.
Winter projects, such as crafts made by the family are put on display with pride. Songs are sung, there is dancing, and of course plenty of eating.
The term "May" is derived from the old Rjuven mai which refers to the life of the land. This used to be a personification, but now such a role is taken by Erik, and the word is used to indicate the spirit he injects into Cerilia during Roelir and the gaiety and merriment associated with this festival.
