DM Tips:Crafts - boot making

Boots and shoes are made of stitched leather, where the base is made of wood (usually willow) they are called clogs. Clogs can in fact be made entirely of wood and this fashion occurs in southern Brechtur amongst the peasantry where the shoes are called sabots.
The typical leather shoe or boot is made from five pieces of leather for the upper, a toe-cap, a front piece, two sides, and a heel. All of which are shaped to fit the foot and then stitched together.
The lower part is made of stiff leather, the heel is tacked together and sewn to the sole.
The upper part is then stitched to the lower where the cobbler can reach, and for the front another strip of leather is placed between them and the three pieces are stitched together from the outside.
