Aurochs are an undomesticated variety of cattle , perhaps 25% larger than their domesticated cousins. Wild and aggressive, they can be likened to a boar, which is a feral variety of pig. Because of their very aggressive temperament, killing one is seen as a great act of courage. It is possible that the Auroch is a form of "dire cattle" as the breed does not successfully mate with domestic cattle. They are quite ancient and the Sidhe tell that they were much more common before the coming of men.
