[top]Biography:

Arvuor Raemel is the Lord of Cariemas and a few other minor estates that once belonged to his father, Raemel Roesone.
After 39 years of ruling Roesone as the Black Baron, the 79 year old Daen Roesone seemed like he might yet live forever such was his health. His oldest son, Raemel Roesone, was content to serve as a lieutenant of his father. Daen's second son, Ivil Galiene, however, could no longer resist the urge to seize power, fully believing that his time had come and his father's longevity stood as an obstacle to his ambition. Ivil never had the respect from his father that Raemel did or the affection that the youngest brother, Morghan Roesone, had. Ivil's heart turned black and he plotted patricide. In 516 MR, Ivil poisoned the wine of his father Daen and his brother Raemel. Daen was killed by this attack, but by coincidence, Raemel was spared when a kitchen wench sampled some of Raemel's wine before serving him and died in front of Raemel. Raemel immediately made for his father's court to inform him. Ivil received word that Raemel was making for Blacktower Castle and believed that he was going to claim the barony. Rather than be thwarted, he sent trusted soldiers to slay Raemel before he could be named Baron. Ivil's assassins were successful.
Raemel had no legitimate children but he had recognized a bastard son, Arvuor, and was raising the boy who was now five years old. His mother was unknown, but was thought to be a servant in his house. With the death of Raemel, and the revelation that Ivil was the assassin of Daen and Raemel, neither Arvuor's uncle Morghan nor his aunt Darliene Roesone chose to look after the young boy.
Egil Bjording had been well treated by Daen Roesone after the death of his father, Harald Bjording, one of the Black Baron's lieutenants. Egil had gotten along well with Raemel and took pity on Arvuor. When the boy was nine years old, Egil approached the servant family who was caring for Arvuor and took the boy into his house as a page. When Arvuor was fifteen he was ready to enter a noble house as a squire, but no nobles seemed inclined to take him into their house.
