Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition is the second version of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. With the further development of D&D versions, it has also become known as AD&D 2ed.

AD&D developed from the Basic D&D system in various ways, which include:
AD&D 2nd Edition, introduced in 1989, was based on AD&D, but had some notable changes, including:
  • Classes were grouped under four major categories, Warrior, Wizard, Rogue, Priest
  • Wizards could specialize in any school of magic, thus the illusionist class became a special case of such.
  • Priest spells were organized into spheres, and the notion of priests of specific mythoi was established, of which the druid became an example of such.
  • The assassin as a separate class was dropped, and the bard became a base class.

The original publications for the Birthright campaign setting set out the rules and NPCs according to the AD&D 2nd Edition system. The BRCS is the development of those rules for other versions of D&D.
