I would like to ask the lot of you, especially those who DM, how you
would handle the Gorgon. I refer to the aftermath of the "Sword of Roele"
    adventure.
IMC, it was the Tuarhievel sidhe who stole the Sword of Roele and have it
now (after some adventures). I was going to have the sidhe hide it again, to
prevent the rising of a new Emperor who could both provoke the Gorgon and
overpower the sidhe. BUT, one of my PCs expressed a fear that Savane might
offer it to Big G. in trade for Fhileraene`s life. Such an idea seems
awfully likely to me, but I thought I would throw the question open.
How do you see such a move? Will Gorgon accept? Will he double-cross?
How can I turn this into an adventure? What happens after?

    Lee.

Big G is depicted differently in different places, so you can make almost
    anything out of him.

If you go with the corrupt imperialist angle, then he would try to make such
a deal, perhaps even generously, to win the elves over. After all, they very
    nearly sided with Azrai before.

If you go with Monser G, then he would probably betray everyone - but the
elves would probably have figured that out by now, and not even try.

I also think the same fate that prevented the gorgon from stealing Roele`s
bloodline (who has ever heard of anyone else "grounding" their bloodline?)
would also prevent him from getting the sword, so if the elves try an
exchange, my best bet is that the PCs would homehow learn of it and have a
    chance to interfere.

The Gorgon is LAWFUL evil - if he gives his word to exchange Fhilereane
against the Sword then he will do it.
Maybe he will twist the words and fulfill the agreement to the word:
e.g. You give him the Sword, he gives you the prince - but the prince is
    dead...

The Prince is of no use for the Gorgon as he has left his bloodline in
Tuarhievel - all he can use him for is a bargain tool.

However wouldn´t the Gorgon, who sees himself as the rightful heir of
the Iron Throne DEMAND the sword as it is his property (in his eyes)?
And see and treat you as thieves if you try to negotiate about
conditions for the release of the Sword? ;-)
    bye

The Gorgon could accept the sword in trade for Fhileraene and then make sure
that the humans find out about the deal, preventing the possibility of
Tuarhievel finding human allies in the current human generation and pehaps
    beyond.

What a happy bonus of Mhoried seems to accepting of Savane`s deal. It could
be the end of the Mhoried as an independent state. And Anuire might just
wash their hands of the whole affair and say because that`s what you get for
making a deal with the like of the Gorgon.

Very interesting adventure hook. My advice: Savane would have to be a
whole new breed of idiot to trade the sword for Fhileraene with the Gorgon
in person. She may be present herself at the exchange or not (she`d
probably want to be there to greet her hubby) but if the Gorgon is there
then one would have to suspect a trap/double-cross.

You could turn this into an adventure by having PCs either in charge or at
least present at the exchange, they could be tasked with preventing a
double-cross by the Gorgon, they might be needed to prevent the exchange in
the first place, they could be sent by Savane to try to make the deal with
the Gorgon (or his representatives.) Something like that.

I wouldn`t have the Gorgon double-cross, but I also wouldn`t put it past
him to manipulate the situation as much as he could within the confines of
the deal. Fhil might be returned, but he could also be returned in pretty
bad shape, under the effects of several geas spells or otherwise
manipulated in a way that would work to the Gorgon`s advantage and inspire
another adventure for the PCs. If he`s comatose and some special
ingredient were needed to revive him, for instance.

Ooooo. I hadn`t thought about /publicizing/ the deal. There`s an
adventure-- silencing the messenger: perhaps an Anuirean, captured and
brought to the Gorgon himself "just in time" to see the deal, and who "just
happens" to escape near the PCs` Giantdowns home turf. Or perhaps a dwarf,
    not an Anuirean?

Not sure I follow this argument, though I recall that Savane is the niece
of the Mhor, I don`t recollect any policy connections between them. Could
    you elaborate?

I agree with Carl, though, that as Gorgon is Lawful, he will carry
through with the deal. Once he actually /makes/ a deal, that is.

Well, since G. had it first anyway, if the sidhe don`t admit to having
stolen it in the first place, where`s the harm in asking for a "finders`
    fee?"

    Thanks to all so far,
    Lee.

I`m assuming (or suggesting) that politics follows kinship and vice versa.
So that perhaps if Savane is at Tuarhievel it means some kind of amity
between that realm and Mhoried. After all the Mhor`s neice is the one
making this deal. Will the Mhor better reflect his kinship or his national
    interest?

Since I tend to view the Gorgon as a planner and a long term schemer, I
would guess that some advisor in the Mhor`s court has been touched by the
Gorgon and will be there to give the Mhor the right kind of encouragement.
If the Mhor is willing to cut his neice off and disown her, this won`t work.
But if the Mhor is interested in maintaining a friendly relationship with
Tuarhievel and sees his neice as the road there, he will be easily
persuaded. Its always easier to resuade people to do what they already
    want.

As for getting the word out, the Gorgon doesn`t have to rely on just one
ex-captive to spread the word. No doubt he has insideous contacts with all
maner of Anuireans, Rjurik, and Brecht willing to shake hands with the devil
for the right price. He could arrange the leak of information in such a way
that guilders and spymasters think they obtained the information by means of
    espionage.

If a human mercenary who fled the Gorgon`s crown as a child reports that his
uncle sent him word of the trade, spymasters might scratch their head and
doubt the story. Then they get word that Fhileraene is back in Tuarhievel
and the Gorgon can show off the sword in person, validating both parts of
the story. The ex-captive could be just one of many planned leaks. As they
say, three people can keep a secret if two of them are dead. If the Gorgon
wants news of the story to get out, it will. The guilds in Tuarhievel will
be another excellent vehicle for spreading information.

I personally play with the sword switch between owners. Gylvain grabbed the hilt portion when he rescued Dosiere at the end of the Iron Throne. The upper blade portion was left behind and is now in the possession of the ole' stoney butt.

The Chamberlain has secretly held the blade for centuries. He received a vision from haelyn many years ago that the true heir will be the one that is able to retreive the blade and refashion the sword.

As far as your plotline with teh Savane bit. I like it, except for the fact that I doubt the eles would have kept the blade simply for the sake of diplomacy. If nothing else it would have been returned a a token of peace. But... anyway...

if Savnae has the blade she seems STUPID enough to give the blade to the Gorgon for Fhy. The Gorgon of course would then return the Prince either dead, poisoned, or in a horrible state. Or simply reutn him fully healthy and alert all of Anuire subvertly of the elves idiocy in giving him the blade. Let the races heighten their bitterness and heighten the divide.

Also a good point. The more I think about such a deal, the less I like
