    Hi folks,

Can anyone help me out with the Dungeoncraft article from Dragon magazine
issue 293? I don`t have the issue, but the article can be found on the
Dragon website. However, it refers to severel things that are not featured
on the webpage, but that clearly were originally part of the article. The
following things are referenced in the article, but are missing on the page:

    Realm Control Sheet
    Population and Resources section
    Encounter Modifiers table
    Discontent Modifiers table

Could someone perhaps post them here, or otherwise mail them to me? I would
    be ever so grateful.

    Please,

    - the Falcon

OK, folks, I`ve found my copy of issue #293. In my esoteric magazine
filing system, it was wedged between an old copy of Heavy Metal and what I
think was a copy of Esquire with the cover torn off.... Anyway, here`s the
material that is apparently missing from the version of the article that
got reproduced on the Wizards` site:

    >Realm Control Sheet

This was a little 3/4 page "sheet" much like a character sheet for your
realm. In it`s "General Information" section was

    Realm Name:
    Realm alignment:
    Wilderness Lore:
    Knowledge (nature):
    Ruler Name:
    Wisdom Score:
    Diplomacy:
    Military Strength:
    Current Discontent:
    Current Hardship:
    Encounter Modifier:

The "Treasury and Trade" section included

    Current Treasury: __________

    Tax Rate Multiple Population Income
    Low x2,000 __________ ______
    Medium x5,000 __________ ______
    High x10,000 __________ ______

    Trade Realm Road (x2) Income
    ___________ _________ ______

with seven more blank lines there. Another table was included for "Realm
Diplomacy" which just had spaces for the name of the realm, it`s alignment
and the Ill-Will rating towards that nation. Last, and probably most
importantly on the Realm Control Sheet, was the table for "Population and
Resources" which might not get reproduced well over email, but I`ll give it
    a shot.

    # of Population Resources
Terrain Squares Multiplier Population Multiplier Resources
    Plain _______ x12 __________ x1 _________
    Forest _______ x7 __________ x5 _________
    Hill _______ x6 __________ x3 _________
    Mountain _______ x3 __________ x2 _________

    Jungle _______ x3 __________ x2 _________
    Desert _______ x1 __________ x0 _________
    Bases _______ x4 __________

    0 -5%
    1 +2%
    2 +4%
    3 +6%

    >Discontent Modifiers table

    Population Modifier

There you go. Hope that helps,

NP. The formatting looks good in the BR archives and in the text version I
got back from the list, but the birthright.net message boards don`t seem to
preserve spaces very well. Many email programs and the archives have a
problem with tabs. Short of creating a website for posts with tables does
anyone know of a way to make columns appear that will work for the
archives, the listserver and the br.net boards?

Part of the loss of spaces and tabs comes from using a txt format. HTML is
much better at preserving this kind of stuff, but last time this issue came
up, too many residents of the etherial plane lacked html capacity.

I would have said HTML is much *worse* at it. It compresses all
whitespace of any kind into just a single space unless you mangle the text
with huge amounts of formatting gobbledygook. As a markup language, it is
explicitly not for that kind of layout -- hence the introduction of the
<table> tag. It`s straightforward to write a (very short and simple)
program to convert text tables to HTML ones, but I for one will continue
to my dying day to proclaim that if you must choose just one format,
please please please make it plain text. Thank you, Gary. Well done.

The only sure way is to pass it around as an attachment in a format that
will not be interpreted by a mail agent. And then you have to have
support for attachments in the boards. I think you may have to live with
    the limitations.

Even tables in HTML can cause problems due to different user agents.
Some agents (i.e. Browsers and mail programs) can render certain
(painstakingly set out) text characters as fixed width font types.

How many out there on the ethereal plane (the net?) have no HTML
    capacity?

    e.g.

    +--------+-------------+
    |regent | Hermann |
    +--------+-------------+

will work (sometimes pretty and sometimes not so pretty - hopefully as
    you see it now.

    Code:
I	just found out that using the message board tag &#34;code&#34; works fine,
    as you can see. :P
Or at least for spaces, that is. It unfortunately still reduces each tab to a single space, which isn&#39;t much help.

I believe we would need to set the list to HTML capable.

I don&#39;t really care any longer, &#39;cause I&#39;m not using the list anymore, anyway.

Ahhh...&#33; Yes, I admit - I plead guilty as charged&#33; I know it&#39;s a mortal sin, but please, Kenneth, do not judge me. Think well of me...
