I run DOSBox from my USB stick, so I can use it from any computer that will let me connect my USB stick and run programs from it. I've had trouble with this on some school computers, but a lot of times there are simple ways around this.

Check out DOSBox Portable at PortableApps.com for the portable version.

Basically, I've used DOSbox using the commands shown above, got to some menu, and in the end it asks for a folder to install. Whatever I typed in, the error came out as "Error creating a folder." So, at about 2 AM, I've decided to quit trying. But I guess it's finally a time to do some modding and leave the GA to RIP.
Make sure you don't have any spaces in the folder names you give it. (I just leave it as the default C:\SIERRA\BIRTHRT) Otherwise, make sure you have permission to write to the place you're trying to install the game. I know Vista had some weird problems with protecting the Program Files folder or something.

I can try writing a more thorough walk-through of the installation I did when I get home.

It's a bit late at this point, but I managed to get this running on Windows 10 without DOSBox and wrote up the instructions.

I also saved it to the Internet Archive in case it ever disappears.
