    Database problems

As you probably have noticed over the last few day BRnet was unreachable.
Actually itwas giving database errors when requesting the site.
It seems the database got corrupted, and mainly the wiki tables.

Flip is doing what he can to fix things and restore everything. Until then we wont have a wiki.
At least the forum is back.

    cheers
    Arjan

Well this is the error I get when I try to enter the wiki.

    MediaWiki internal error.

    thnx arius
dunno if you can help with corrupted database files

    this is what flip wrote:

There was a bit of a disk issue that ended up with mysql "spin" crashing - it would start up, then crash just about immediately. *Some* requests would get through, but, hit a certain table, and the db crashes. Starts up almost immediately, but the corruptions can cascade ...

I didn't know that was happening for a long while, so a bunch of tables, all across the board, got corrupted. Most were in a format I could recover with. The wiki tables are proving a lot more problemeatic.

Ok, ok, so I'm perhaps not as much an expert as your "flip", but you need to do a mysql "REPAIR TABLE" - not sure if you have access to the DB, but if you open a mysql query browser, just run "REPAIR TABLE XXXXX", where XXX is the table name. I'm not sure what wiki software you use, but again, if you have DB access, you should use the mysql admin to find out what table is crashed and repair it; it can't be more than 1 or 2 tables... and a REPAIR TABLE should really do it; email your flip's info or any help I can give to charles@stockphotopro.com for help... (I need to get some stuff from the Wiki on abilities, I've come to rely on it!)

Ok, so looks like you are using "mediawiki" and you have a missing table called arjan.wiki_page

    1. It's looking for that table on localhost, do you have the correct user/pass to connect to localhost?
    2. Can you try to connect to it to see it it's there at all, or is it really missing (can't be good - hopefully you have a backup, but i rarely do)
=> obviously it's not a crashed table (you'd get another error message), so I sure wish it's just a connection issue.

ok, ill try to explain again.

the database files got corrupted, and flip was only able to restore the vb3_ tables, which are the forum tables.

most of the wiki_ tables got severely dammaged, so those arent restored.
So thats why they are missing... and thus the reason you get the current error messages.

Well at least the forum<->mailing list relationship has been maintained. I imagine the mailing list is always a fallback plan if br.net has too many problems. It can also be thought of as a pseudo-backup for the general forum. Unfortunately, it doesn't help with the wiki.

Thanks Flip, Arjan and others for what you do behind the scenes to keep br.net running, even when it doesn't have disasters.
