Anuirean emperors (version by: FearlessLeader)
Discussion thread for User:FearlessLeader/Anuirean emperors.
The first Emperor Hadrian doesn't seem to bear any numeral at all, whereas Michael Roele's father is listed as Hadrian IV, without there seemingly have been a Hadrian III. I assume that this must be in error.

I expect that either it is a typo, or Hadrien 3 also had another name and number - I would be amazed if the progression was always logical...

I imagine that there are some historical precedents for this. Maybe a famous Hadrian who was considered the "Third" without ever formally wearing the crown?
Sir Robin the Not-quite-so-brave-as-Sir-Lancelot,
who had nearly fought the Dragon of Agnor,
who had nearly stood up to the vicious Chicken of Bristol,
and who had personally wet himself at the Battle of Badon Hill.

In historical cases there are people who get numbers after the fact who never held the crown because they were legitimate. Louis 17 never technically existed, Young Louis was killed while a boy, as yet uncrowned, during the French Revolution. His father was Louis 16, his uncle Louis 18. There are other reasons legitimate people get passed over. Especially when an uncle usurps the throne, but the rightful line later re-asserts control.
Another case is the very brief reign, especially when technically uncrowned. Old king dies, new king dies before coronation. Stuff like that.
Its also possible that Hadrian III was himself a usurper, so while he called himself that, later generations regard someone else as the legitimate Emperor and the next Emperor named Hadrian doesn't want to be called III because H3 was rightly hated. So they jump from 2 to 4.
