New Metamagic Feat

[Birthright-L]

After watching LotR again this weekend, I noticed there is no metamagic feat
that does away with spell componants, although we have Silent Spell that
does away with verbalisations, and Still Spell that does away with gestural
requirements. It occured to me that a feat that eliminated spell componants
could replace them with a single spell focus. In LotR that is the staff, in
Harry Potter its the wand.

50 gp? On p. 40 of my Tome and Blood it reads "Spells.. .cost more than
1 gp are not affected by this feat"

Thanks for the cite, I checked it out and it appears to be 1 gp, which just
eliminates mundane items. The more I think about it, the more I can
envision staves, wands, or other foci that are almost like inanimate
familiars. Companions to the wizard, channeling the energy like a material
componanant but by different means.

They should be expensive to prepare (less so if innatly valuable), and
require a month of perperations to act as a means to channel magik.

IMC, this is one of the primary perceptual/behavioral distinctions between
true wizards and mere magicians (and a parallel categorization among
priests): all unblooded spellcasters must use material components, but no
blooded one need do so. I don`t allow any of these feats to be taken as
such, but instead award them as an inherent part of increasingly high
bloodline (or revoke them at the point of sufficient bloodline loss).

Essentially, I view "pure" spellcasting as an act of will alone, and all
the other parts of the ritual (verbal, somatic and material, and even
memorization) as crutches that have been worked out over the millennia to
allow the less-blooded folk a way to make up for some of the natural gifts
of the blooded. As a consequence of this theory, IMC *all* spells require
all three of V, S and M to magicians; as blood power increases, these
restrictions are gradually removed, and the strength/duration/size of the
effect increases.
