    Catherine Diem

    Discussion thread for Catherine Diem.

Did Diemed really look east and Avanil look west and still run across each other or is this something that needs changing?

I don't understand the question. Certainly we have plenty of evidence that today, the central goal of Diemed is reunification, and that lays to the east, in Medoere and Roesone. Further it appears her only real friend is Aerenwe.

Avanil has recently gotten a firm hold in Taeghas and is preoccupied with Boeruine. Even her policy in Alamie/Tuornen seems to hinge on Boeruine.

What is always this clear? Probably not, especially for Diemed. This reference in Catherine's biography is that her marriage settles some outstanding issues between Avanil and Diemed, allowing them to focus on that which dominates the years between her marriage and 551 MR.

It could be reworded to say that the marriage was a strategic match which let the prince and duke concentrate on west and east respectively if you like.

This is what it actually says:
"When Vandiel the younger assumed the throne of Diemed he looked east. When Veladin Avan succeeded in Avanil, he looked west. Both regents were eager for a mutual peace, and so Vandiel's sister, Catherine Diem was married to Veladin Avan, Prince of Avanil, securing peace in the west."

I think its clear. But feel free to edit.
