Endier in Flames...Getting some good ideas for rebuilding.

So I had a coup take place and the lower guilders of Kalien turned on him. The party, along with the last of the blood of Richard Endier have captured those responsible and taken control of the realm.

Now they are dealing with some first round domain actions and I'm trying to provide a little "filler" for what else is going on. Without the guild, I'm sure supplies have stopped coming into the city leading to food shortages, perhaps clothing shortages. They don't have much of an army or law presence yet so theft is up, and is banditry in the countryside.

What other things might be happening at a moment like this? Ideas? Suggestions?

    How about:

Kalien wouldn't be careless enough to leave all his skullduggery on the official books of his guild. He has the equivalent of a "double entry" system - a large log book filled with details of scams, payments, and blackmail material which he kept very securely locked away.

While Kalien has a lot of legitimate business interests, only possession of the book will allow a regent to fully utilise the true extent of his underworld empire. If somebody else gets the book, they gain blackmail material on a great deal of people in Kalien's old business empire, thus making it extremely open to corruption.

Obviously this would have been Kalien's best kept secret, but during the chaos it was found by somebody (perhaps a servant, trying to find something worth stealing before making a run for it), and now its existence has become known to at least a few people. Right now the PCs have a chance to look for it before the information becomes common, but if they don't find it soon, it will definitely end up in the wrong hands.

Endier is an important neutral spot in between Diemed, Ghoere, Avanil, and the tinderbox that is Tuornen and Alamie. In the past, its neutrality was guaranteed by the fact that it was really just the base for Heartlands Outfitters. Two things have changed. One is that the guarantee is gone. Will the old relationships stay the same? No one can allow Endier to fall into the camp of any other power. Second, who are the new rulers? Could they hold the state against an agreesive push? This option is really only open to Avanil or Ghoere, but its possible that either one of them might act aggressivly to consolidate power and fill what is thought to be a vacuum. The five powers listed first would be motivated to fight a defensive war to prevent Endier from being taken by anyone considered hostile (including hostile PC's).

    churches of Endier

The balance of the religions would also be changed. Up to now, Saramie and Haelyn were both well received in Endier. Now that the old political structure is crumbling, the populace look to the churches for guidance. This in turn gives the churches new ideas on how to further their own regency.

The Celestial Jewel of Sarimie may be trying to grab control of guilds and businesses and place them under its banner, rather than that of the Outfitters. This may involve aggression (eg. standover tactics) and espionage.

The Western Imperial Temple of Haelyn may try and put itself forward as the new symbol of Law. It could try and put controls on trade and movement within the province which will really hamper trade. It may also end up having more soldiers than the city's army.

As for the worshippers of Eloéle, they are probably having a field day. The lawlessness will be great for them and they may end up getting a few temples established, or some existing structures infiltrated and turn to worship a new goddess.

And that's just a start.... I don't know what other religions are powerful in neighbouring provinces but I bet they are itching to establish a foothold in the new Endier.
