A new birthright game should be a little "heretic"?

Birthright pc game was one of my favourite pc game, but in the pc game's history was a flop.
I think that there are 3 reasons
    1)lack of funding
    2)poor adventure mode
3)quite good battle mode, but lack of units

For "heretic" birthright pc game I invite you to compare Dune 2 with Dune books. If Dune is considered an excellent book, Dune 2 one of the most important pc game of all times. Some heresies of Dune 2 weren't important like the change of the story, but other were fundamental...like the big arsenal for every faction and their special weapons (there aren't in the book).
So I think that in a future birthright pc game you should have a vast army selection (in the gorgon's alliance for example dwarves have only archers and infantry, human were more various but it could be better) for every race, maybe some military technology (like more powerful sword),and obviously at least a special unit for every faction.
From the other hand the political mode of gorgon's alliance was great for the times and needs very little improvment(and not heresies here).Of course you should play with all Cerilia and not only Anuire.
I think that a pc game with all this improvments shouldn't be refused from a wise softare house...

I'm regret that I can help you very much....I can only makes game with rpg maker 2000!

    Hi,

The Birthright PC game was flawed at many, many levels. We like it because
we are fans of the setting, but overall the game was a total disaster. The
AI was totally badly done (and this game would require a very high level of
AI to succeed), the combat system was also full of mistakes (I don`t
remember about the adventure mode much, but I don`t have great memories of
    it either...).

Taking license problems aside, I don`t think any developer will be
    interested in picking it again:

    - it has a very small fan base.
    - it`s a TBS game mostly, and these games don`t sell too much.
    - it`s too broad in scope (or at least the first one was): TBS play, RTS
combat, first person RPG adventures,... Too many things in the same game.

    Regards!

    Vicente

Well, it truly was flawed...but fun never the less!

One option that could be done is using the Medieval
Total War II engine to place Birthright Skins over the
models and use that engine with a map of Anuire as a
setting instead of a map of Europe.

A similar thing was done for a Middle-Earth war game
using the Rome Total War engine...

Unfortunately I don`t know enough about programming to
even venture a guess at how it would all be done. It
is possible though...because it has already been done!

Decent II has really opened up the fantasy turn-based strategy market and I
could see Birthright games being played if a similiar effort was put into
    that game.

    Decent II?

All I can find by searching on that name are links to the Descent range of games...

Could you give us a link? Cheers

Yes,AI of Birthright pc game was awful.
Maybe we can resolve the small fan base problem with another eresy:we can use in the next pc game AD&D rules instead D&D rules.

    Hi,

I suppose he is talking about Disciples II (it`s the only fantasy TBS game I
can think about). Checking last year (2006), we had more or less 4 big TBS
    releases:

    - Civilization 4 and addon
    - Medieval Total War 2
    - Heroes of Might and Magic V and addon
    - Galactic Civilizations 2

Only one is a fantasy game (Heroes V), but it`s a very well established
franchise, that has ben waiting for that game for a very long time (and
after a very disappointing Heroes IV). Even with an experienced developer
(Nival - Etherlords), the game didn`t come out very well until the
expansion. Also, we have only one game from a minor developer (Galactic
    Civilizations 2 from Stardock).

This means sadly that not many big guys are putting their money in Fantasy
TBS games... (compared to RTS like Company of Heroes or Supreme Commander).
This year there were some interesting games ahead (and probably Disciples 3
that was scheduled for later 2006 but has slipped it), and maybe a game also
from Stardock (this guys tried to buy the Master of Magic IP, but they
couldn`t in the end so they are doing their own game). But we`ll have to
wait some more months until we see some announcements in this subject...

    Regards,

    Vicente

Ah, Total War. As a huge fan of the series, i've been wondering about a Birthright Total War mod for a number of years. I lack the modding tools to do it myself though.

The best of the mods for Total War is (imo) Rome Total Realism ( http://www.rometotalrealism.org/ ). They took the Rome engine and rebuilt it into a much more historically accurate game (which Rome TW was not). Superbly done mod.

So, there is much potential for using the Rome or Medieval 2 Total War engines to create a Birthright Total War. Alas, a good mod requires a big fan base, and i think we Birthrighters are a relatively small group.

Doing a mod over a existing game (Civ IV, Medieval 2) would be much more feasible than a full game, but nevertheless a great work

Ah, yes... I`ve been considering a Birthright mod for Homeworld 2...

And yes, I did mean Disciplies, not Descent. Sorry for the confusion.
    Here`s some screenshots:
