I'm lookign for a 'complete idiot's guide' to creating 3E monsters.

I've got the article from the CD which was shipped with Dragon awhile back, but I'm still finding it a bit difficult to create balanced monsters.

    Does anyone have any tips?

Are you trying to create brand new kinds of monsters? Or are you trying to convert creatures like the Spider to the new rules?

If you are trying to create brand new monsters, I would first get familiar with the converted old monsters. Once you know how they balance, it will be easier for you to create similar but new creatures that are balanced for your campaign.

And if you think your character got more powerful when you converted it to 3E just wait until you convert things like the Spider!
