    Political weddings

So, one of my players, King of Aerenwe, decided that he's in Love with Baroness Marla Roesone. He wants to marry her. The arrangement would be that they marry, but keep their own crown, then their son/daughter will inherit the whole realm.
Meanwhile, Duchess Eirene Mierelen is trying to place her sons/daughters in all the south - he already made his son marry Lasica Diem, and the death of the baron during the *Family Matters* adventure put Ectarius Mierelen as the new Baron. Now the Duchess wants to marry her first-born girl to the king of Aerenwe, so that the Mierelen family, one way or another, will reunite all the south under the golden Eel.
My question is, how hard should I make this? Would Marla agree to such marriage, politically speaking? What should weight in favor? what should not?

What would they gain from having their firstborn GIRL marrying the King of Aerenwe?

You would first have to decide if Aerenwe what inheritance law every single duchy and barony uses - they could be quite different.

Think about how the rulers of the United Kingdom lost the rule of the Electorate, later Kingdom of Hannover - because in England a woman could become queen but in Hannover with salic law only a guy could ascend to the throne.

Then you would have to decide if marrying the King actually makes her Queen - Prince Philipp for example did not become King of England but only "prince-consort" to Elizabeth II. and thus he would and will not rule. He would have had the honours as long as his wife ruled, but then Charles would inherit the throne, not Philipp as the widower.

And then you would have to add a contender for every single realm united in that large realm - because a King or Queen almost every time will try to centralize their rule. It would be silly not to - unifying currencys, tolls, laws, taxes, weights and measurements instead of every duchy having their own. Raising resistance among the population that does not quickly change old habits. Having them look for distant relatives who could be used to split their lands from the large realm to keep what they are instead of being just a part of a traditionless southern realm.

Do the courts want the union? Do they prefer another spouse?

Does each court consider that the other regent is of the right age, religion, honour, glory, wealth, etc? Is any past marital history acceptable, are they sure that the union will produce heirs?

Is Aerenwe's disdain for imperial glory acceptable to Roseone? Is Roseone's origin in mercenary battle acceptable to Aerenwe?

What do major vassals think, did one of them hope to marry up? Are they worried about the foreign influence? Great captains can be made of ignoring such concerns.

And of course, what do the other rulers of Anuire (and beyond) think? Is the union considered a threat? Do they want to marry their children to Marlae/the king? Every ruler aware of the growing power is interested on the proposed match, not just Mieres, even if their interest is limited to casting shame or use of poison rather than being marital in nature.

Unifying lands through marriage is a key family aim, though much depends, as Michael notes, on inheritance, etc laws - does the firstborn get everything, does the regent decide, or do all the children share in the combined kingdom, etc - in BR however bloodline inheritance rules will play a major part as inheriting the bloodline of one (preferably both) parents is key to having a bloodline strong enough to properly rule, I would expect Andu law to have moved towards ensuring that the child with the bloodline inheritance also inherited the land to rule with it - but such laws are often very slow to change and even after a unifying empire may be different across Anuire.
