Question Designing a realm (from scratch)

    Guys,

I am a fan of the old 2e Birthrights game. I recently found that there was a 3e pdf out there, and lead me here.

My question is: where are the rules for building a country from scratch? The old rules had a point based system for rulers based on a die roll and some bonus based on bloodline strength.

Then each regent would buy his assets and buy his province levels with those points; each class would buy these points with a lessened cost, etc.

I hope someone knows what I'm talking about, and can reproduce these rules for the 3.5 brcs-playtest.

    Anway, thanx in advance!

I remember what you're talking about. In fact, I once tried to build a PBeM around the idea....

Long story short, I haven't seen any conversion of those rules. If you're feeling inspired, mayhaps you could have a go at it...

Yup they are not there. It is something that we've talked about including when the chapter gets revised.

Any chance you would be willing to reproduce the old rules on this board, or take a stab at your new ideas?

I'd really appreciate it, as I cannot find my original manual.

I'll pull out my old, battered copy of the core rules for ya.

    Step 1: Generate Domain Points

Ammount of domain points at player gets is equal to his/her bloodline strength, plus a random number of points depending on their bloodline strength:

    Tainted: +2d6
    Minor: +2d8
    Major: +2d10
    Great: +2d12

    Step 2: Spend the points

Two things you can spend your points on: Domain structures and Assets

    Domain Structures:
Province Level: 2pts/lvl (Warriors only pay 1/lvl)
    Law Holdings: 1pt/lvl
Guild Holdings: 2 pts/lvl (thieves only pay 1/lvl)
Source Holdings: 2/lvl (wizards only pay 1/lvl)
Temple Holdings: 2/lvl (priests only pay 1/lvl)

If you decide to drastically change the terrain from what the DM assigns it to be, he can charge you 1-4 points per province, depending on how drastic the changes are.

    Assets:
Army Units: 1pt/8gbs worth of units (muster cost)
Contacts: 1pt/2 contacts (important NPC allies or level-0 holdings)
Fortifications: 1pt/lvl of fort. or castle
    Leiutenant: 1pt per
Loyalty: 1pt/province raised to high loyalty
    Trade Routes: 1 per
    Treasury: 1/5GBs

    There you are.
