In The Navy!!
I recently, in a game im playing in, had a question occur to me. When
your building a navy, and thus ship units-- which action should be
used to get the ships.. There are really two choices, either Muster
Units or Build. Both have their advantages, and disadvantages, and
really a DM can make a case to use either one.
I perfer build, for the following reasons..
* A ship isnt a unit. You dont 'trade' a ship.
* It takes along time to build a ship, and thus the build
rules take that into account.
* It makes getting the more expensive ships, like the galleon,
alot easier-- as you only have to pay 6gb a turn, even then
only in the best of circumstances.
* Ships seem to me, something that you build..
however, a case could be made for the Muster Unit action too..
* Ships are military units, and muster unit DOES give you
military units.
* By making the player spend all the money at the same time,
it limits the availablity of ships-- which can, I guess,
make sense...
What is everybodys opinion??

I seem to recall building ships is a free action, and thus it doesn't
really matter..perhaps the CotS or the HotGB expansions have something,
but i don't have them on hand.

In my game, you are required to use both actions, build to have the
actual ships constructed and Muster Troops to raise a crew for the ship.
How does everyone else do it ?

Yeah, the build action is a free action-- you can start constructing
as many ships as you want in a turn-- but the build action still
requires that the actual building be done.. Thus, you have to wait
for the ship to be built, at the time rate of 1d6 gold bars per turn..

I think thats abit steep-- afterall, a crew usually dosnt stay on
just one ship.. Ive always thought that the crew didnt come about unit
the 'move ships' free action, which costs GB (thus meaning paying
the crew, buying supplys, etc etc)
Just my opinion :)
I just use the build action :)

Hmmm..never thought of that..I had always played it thqt the ships were
bought already built. Perhaps I shall rethink that ...

Yeah, but if you use it properly, to build your ships, you have to wait
for construction to be completed at 1d6/turn
