    Regent and Resurection

One of the Pc regents in our game (Aerenwe) is most likly going to be
assasinged. He has played regent very poorly and only wanted to be
regent so he could have lots of power. He is the only PC regent but I
still have to handle his domain like an NPC domain. He convinced me to
let him start at level 7 when the rest of the group started at level 1.
The reason I would like to see him play another character also has to do
with the fact that a PC is playing the regents cousin and is his heir.
The heir is a son of Aeric Bouerine ( I altered the story, lots in
fact). The regent really does not want to give up his character and the
GM thinks that if he is assasingted and found about 8 hours later that
he can be brought to the nearest temple come back, and take control of
Aerenwe again. In that context how do you all think I should handle it?
I spent 20+ hours working on this game about twice as much as the Gm and
I'd really hate to see it die a death of disinterest.

    Regent and Resurection

    Two Points:

    1) Assassinated - A, S, S, A, S, S, I, N, A, T, E, D - Assassinated

    2) You always set yourself up for a hassle when you give one player a
huge advantage over another like that. Regardless of how much the
game is 'supposed' to promote teamwork and interaction - we are all
young boys at heart (otherwise we'd be spending our time more
constructively) and we are competitive. What fun is an adventure when
I only have to stand behind 'the big guy with the cool armour'? Or,
is it possible for little ol' me to call up Mr. Clinton and offer
suggestions on matters of state? Not likely - unless, I was one of
his buddies from college. In that case, I'm of a similar enough
'level' that I can say something.

In order to teach Mr. Selfish a lesson, let him stay on the throne.
Sure, why not? But send the other PCs off to gain some levels and
make a name for themselves. WHy can't our 7th level hero attend? It
just so happens that this month our Regent has way too many
duties/problems/conflicts that need attention and which don't permit
that sort of luxury. If the player wants to play, have him bring a
    lower level player.

I'd also like to point out that assassination is rarely a good way to
take care of a character - any character. Players spend a lot of time
on creation and development - even if only in their own minds. For a
DM to go and execute that character is a bad idea for the campaign and
the group of players. Maybe as a last resort it's okay, but try
    something else first.

Hey, you're the DM. You can do anything. But you do want the
campaign to go on. Bringing the player back to the 'fold' is far
    better than ostracism.
