Elven Investiture
Elves don't have priests, right? So how do elven rulers get
investitured? I was wondering if this was an oversite or was done on
purpose. as a side note how do other DM's deal with this problem.
just curious

This subject came up in my campaign, and the way I managed it was
to give Elven Mages a realm spell:
Investiture (Enchantment/Charm)
Regency: 2/province level
Gold: 1/province level
Req'd source: 5
Character Level: 5
Duration: Permanent
This spell allows an Elven Mage to Invest a ruler. This spell is only
castable by elves, and requires a source in the province to be invested.
Giving this spell to Elven Mages is based on the fact that Elven magic
is based upon their understanding and harnessing (or collaborating and
enhancing) the forces of nature. As mebhaighl is tied to the land,
and Elven Magic is more closely tied to the its direct use than
Human magic, this seems a natural extension of Elven Magic.
The high source requirement, and the fact that it must be in the
province
to be invested explains the fact that Elves don't rule Human
territories:
they first have to rebuild the natural world to the extent that it will
support a source 5, an undertaking that would require the forcible
depopulation of a territory, followed by centuries of letting the land
regenerate. Elves certainly have the time to do this, but it would
be exceedingly difficult to hold humanity at bay (and out of the
province concerned) for the length of time required.

Excuse my english but I'm an italian boy and I don't know English very
well.
Even if Elves do not believe in any God, Elves "adore" the night-sky as a
sort of 'helping divinity'. The stars are the souls of the great warriors
of the past that look upon the Elves that live on Cerilia. I think that
investituring acts are in some way related with this 'entity' in a way
that is not much different from the way in which human priests legitimate
their rulers. As a DM, in my campaigns, I master it this way.
If anyone has a better idea, we are all waiting for him/her to
show up...
Nicola
