    A new hope

I feel like I need to be handing out prozac. Do you folks really
think this is that bad? I think it will be interesting to see what
happens. Here are some things I would like to see from WOTC.

    1. Campaign worlds based upon their M;TG expansions.
    2. D&D Gold: A reprint of the very first rules to come out.
    3. AD&D Classic: A reprint of the 1st Edition rules.
    4. Classic Modules: Reprints of all the old modules.

My simple hope is that they keep the present employees at TSR.

I'm not too hot on #'s 1 or 2 or come to think of it # 4 sounds like a
really good idea. Perhaps a 3rd and final edition?

Excuse me for saying so, but ****, number one there must be the
most stupid idea I've heard in a century.
What we *definitely* do NOT want, is for them to tie AD&D in with MtG.
If they do, we'll probably be playing with magic cards next, and MtG is,
contrary to belief, *NOT* a role-playing game.
And, one more thing: AD&D, and role-playing games in general, are not
just games, they are a hobby, and for quite a few people, a lifestyle.

"Just a game? The world is just a game. Role-playing is many worlds,
    and MANY games."

Pardon the shouting. (I HATE corporate takeovers. Quality goes to hell.)

    No, please, don't!

    > 2. D&D Gold: A reprint of the very first rules to come out.

    Why?
Those rules stink. They may have been the best roleplaying rules available
when they came out (since they were the ONLY roleplaying rules), but that
doesn't mean they have any merit today. You are merely being nostalgic.

    > 3. AD&D Classic: A reprint of the 1st Edition rules.

    Again, why?
AD&D first edition introduced a lot of good ideas, but all the things that
were worth salvaging were brought over to the second edition.

    > 4. Classic Modules: Reprints of all the old modules.

Again, please don't! Most of the modules produced by TSR were crap.

Sorry to insult some of you "old-timers" (I've been playing for about 10
years), but I really think you are mistaking age for quality.

Agreed, if I really cared. But then again, I don't really care what they
do. I 'cut all ties' (and with that, all respect) from TSR.

Nostalga probably has something to do with it, but nostalgia makes a pretty
    damn good campaign glue...

Dont go there. Just don't go there. Ive been playing for 17+ years, and I
(along with 80% of the people I know who play (thats quite a bit; I work in
a hobby store part time) 1st edition. And there are more 2nd ed players
switching over to 1st (even thought the books are hard to find) all the
time. IMHO, the 2nd ed DROPPED all of the stuff worth 'saving' as you put
it. A lot of the 'stuff' is INFORMATION and not RULES.

Don't go there. Just don't go there, my friend. Anything produced AFTER
1990 is CRAP. 90% useless for most persons campaigns. All of the 'old
modules' kicked serious buttockses on any new stuff. Just peruse
rec.games.frp.dnd as see how many people prefer 'old modules'. More than
    half, thats for sure.

O.K. boys and girls. Let's remeber here that this mail group is to
talk about Birthright. Not about what's better..1st Ed or 2nd ED,
pre 1990, or post 1990, etc. If you want to continue this argument,
take it to private email, cause I don't want to hear it, and I am
sure other people agree with me. Please keep to the topic of this
    newsgroup.

Um, why don't all of you not go there? In case you had a brain tumor in
the last hour before posting this, this is the Birthright mailing list,
    a campaign setting produced....hmm....after 1990, I believe.

In short, this isn't a "I like 'x' version of D&D" thread. This is the
Birthright mailing list. Either post your ideas about Birthright or
keep it to yourself. I'm sure others agree that we don't need more crap
filling our mailboxes on a daily basis like this.

Sorry for the spam. I just needed to get this chest.

ObBirthright: Have many people used the Skills and Powers stuff for
Birthright? Has anyone re-written the NWP to fit the S&P format?
In my last game, I used the sub-stats and the S&P method for NWPs.
Luckily, no one wanted to take any of the NWPs out of the Birthright
book. Again, as I said above, don't turn this into a "S&P was produced
after (insert arbitrary year here), so it's crap" post-a-thon.

yup we use all the S&P rules here are our not "official" rules-

    Name Group CPS Check Stat
    Admin. General 3 4 Int/Reason
    Diplo. Priest 3 5 Wis/Intuition
    Intr. Rogue 3 6 Wis/Intuition
    Law General 4 5 Int/Knowledge
    Lship General 3 5 Charisma/Leadership
    Siege Warrior 4 6 Int/Reason
    Strat Warrior 3 4 Int/Reason

    hope it helps

I have converted all of the Birthright NWPs into S&P format but then in
conjucntion with my group decided not to use the S&P rules. If you would
like a copy of what I did E-mail me.
