    Dragons $ realm spells

In your campaign, are Dragons capable of casting realm spells?

They were, after all, present at Deismaar (weren't they?), so they could
    easily have bloodlines.
And Dragons, being very magical (and very powerful and the favourite toy
of many a GM) shouldn't be denied anything.
But nowhere in the books do you see a source held by a Dragon.

Maybe they have their own sources of magic, sources thatare completely
unrelated to those used by the younger races.
Maybe they just "convince" other mages to Leyline link when they feel like
    casting realm spells.
Maybe they can just take the power they need, without anyone's permission.

And maybe Dragons can't ast realm spells at all. Ideas?

P.S. Who made the Ancient Ley Lines? Could it be the Dragons?

It has been suggested I think in the Illien sourcebook that Dragons are
so magical that they are sources in themselves. Personally I like the
idea. I tossed out the official stats for the Cerilian Dragons because
they just weren't powerful enough for me. I didn't want some
adventuring party ever to get credit for slaying the so called most
powerful creature on the planet. So not only woul I say that they can
cast realm spells but that they can cast them all with much less
difficulty than mortal wizards. In any world there should be some
things you just wouldn't want to mess with.

In the campaign that I am in the DM has decided that Dragons can cast realm
spells. They don't need ley lines either because they are ancient and magical
and have a natural tie with the land.

You havn't seen the Haven of the Great Bay expansion then. In there one of the
kingdoms has its sorces under the control of someone called the Dragon. As
that kingdom has 4 dragons living in it, it is likely that this sorcerer is an
    actual dragon.

I like the idea of dragons as sources unto themselves, but can a mortal
wizard tap into them? :) I treat dragons sort of like Raymond E. Feist,
extremely powerful and intelligent and secretive, and BTW, some of the
most powerfull magic weilders on the planet.

Yes they are. They are the most powerful creatures on the planet and
ancient beyond that of even the elves. Not only do they know realm spells
but the location of the Caerbhaighlien. With their powers it is also easier
for them to cast spells, they don't need the massive amounts of regency and
gold only a fraction to do what mortal mages only dream of.
Because of the weaker feel of the Cerelian Dragons I use the mixed stats of
other more powerful dragons in the AD&D system, such as the Breath Weapon of
Adamantite Dragons and the AC and HD of golds. But give them the same
casting abilities of the wizard level they equal.

In my game Dragons take a step a little further. They can not cast Realm
spells per se, instead they use magic that they themselves have forged over
the centuries. BR Dragons need a nice load of Dragon-only magic
items(enchanted collars, talon caps +3, Dragon armor +2, etc.), and of
course each has a unique collection of spells, many of which are equal(or
even greater)in power to Realm spells. In high fantasy games like BR I like
Dragons to be almost a natural force given life. Prehaps even the natural
force of magic. Someone else pointed out that Dragons could actually be
living Sources. This is a very workable idea, but I think I still like the
idea of Dragon magic being outside the realm of mortal comprehension. BTW,
prehaps the ancient Ley lines that cross Cerilia were placed by their by
Dragons, and prehaps they serve a greater purpose then anyone aside from
    Dragons can understand.

Good questions. If you read the dragon lore available for BR, you'll
    notice
that the dragons aren't very active. It's easy to assume that if a
    dragon
had a source, and didn't use it for a few years, that some enterprising
    young
blooded mage with more ambition than common sense would come along and
    contest
it and make it his own. If the dragon slept for a few decades, he could
    come
back and find all his source networks taken over by said mage, who by
    now is
no longer some wet-behind-the-ears apprentice, but a full fledged mage.
    If that
happened to you a few times, wouldn't you be tempted to give up?

Following that line, maybe dragons use caerbhaighlien for their realm
    spells?
And maybe they did create the ancient ley lines. They are the oldest
    race
    on the planet....
