The Gorgon has retreated
The people of Anuire can breathe freely again, as the Gorgon has called of
his offensive on Ghoere (he would have won that one, folks!), and has
pulled his forces out of Mhoried and Elinie. He still keeps Cariele
occupied, though.
What has happened? Why did the Gorgon choose to retreat?
Rumour has it that Zakhur lifebane, Dragon of the Five Peaks, confronted
the Gorgon and persuaded him to call of his war. What has persuaded the
mighty Lifebane to intervene in this inconsequential war?
And what talisman is that the dragon is wearing?
And goblins say that a dragon visited Zakhur, and that they were just
about to fight over the contents of an elven adventurers backpack?
Well, Lifebane courteously allowed my players characters to come visit
him, and he bade them go fetch an amulet (a dragon-sized amulet!) in a
cave in the Chimaeron, the home of five insane magicians (tried to clone
themselves with a scroll...nasty story).
They fetched the amulet, and then Zakhur persuaded the Gorgon to stop his
war. I didn't feel like playing out a combat between the Gorgon and the
Dragon (one of them would die, and I need both in my campaign).

That is an interesting way to have the pc's stop the gorgon without fighting
him. Mine had a similar predicament and to stop it they start a war between
two other countries and managed to get the armies in the same general area
as theirs and the Gorgon's. Through deciet, treachery and blackmail get the
leaders to move the armies against the Gorgon. In the end they did enough
damage to confine his conquest to a few territories.
