    That blows my mind! I knew it was *possible* that what Matt had
    developed was a bastardization of something else, but I wasn't around
    then, and didn't know. What *is* Chivalry and Sorcery?

    Chivalry & Sorcery Battlesystem for Paper & Pencil, outlined in the C&S
    Accessory II, using even the same terms as the old C&S Battlesystem does
    (Strategic Stance etc.). I like the adaptation, but considering that Matthew
    reminded us all of keeping the authorship recognition, I felt that a reminder as
    to the >real< original authorship might be appropriate.
    For those interested, C&S Accessory II also applies this system to sieges and
    naval battles. My group has been using the system for the last ten years in our
    Birthright-style political campaign and found it especially useful for resolving
    large scale battles. Matt Thomas seems to have done a nice job on converting it
    for use with AD&D. We have used somewhat different numbers (lower point value
    for the Mages et al), but it is really up to the DM whether he wants battle
    magic to be a power to be reckoned with.
    Magic and morale are two factors which are somewhat neglected in the Paper &
    Pencil Battlesystem (consider the shock value of a wing of dragons flying over a
    peasant army), but adaptations can be made by using the rules from the more
    elaborate C&S Battlesystem in C&S Accessory I, which is intended for tabletop
    play, but meshes quite well with the paper and pencil system. If anyone is
    interested in more details, I'll be happy to provide them.
