Dwarven campaign.
Greetings,
It's almost my time to DM again, and I had been working on the setup for a
Vos campaign; but one of my buddies has floated the idea of an all dwarf
campaign as an idea.
I think this is interesting (I love good party themes that help them feel
that they have an identity beyond "adventurer") but I have never really ran
a demihuman dominated BR campaign. I do have the Baruk-Azhik book, so I have
some info to reference, but would like to know what the rest of you have
done.
If any of you have run adventures for BA or any of the other dwarven realms,
can you share some of the fun. At this point, I have about one month to
prepare. Plenty of time to coalesce a game; but I've already worked on the
VOS idea for a month, so I want to get a jump start on the dwarf idea to
move it along as far as the Vos setting is in a short bit of time.
Oh, last thing, my players will NOT be regents of BA to start. Nor will they
be very close to the thane initially. Realm maintenance info will be good
for the background, but I"m going to focus on the smaller details.

The Birthright Revival is NOW! :)
When you've had the best, why buy the rest?

Well, I've never done it, either, so I can't give you much advice,
although if I remember rightly, Ken Gauck has, and has outlined many
aspects of his games on the list here, so perhaps you could scour the
archives for some of his stuff (I remember in particular he had a Dwarven
Mythology/Holy Book written up that was very good--the history of Cerilia
from the dwarven perspective, etc).
A very good way to get your party into Vosgaard might be to hand them a
possible clue to the "lost home of the dwarves" (whose name currently
escapes me) that is supposed to be located somewhere in eastern
Khinasiland. However, you might turn up some clue that indicates that it
was actually farther north than that. That should be enough of a
motivation to get some adventurous dwarves out of Baruk-Azik and on quest.

A very good idea, though I have to admit I don't know how to access the
archives. If you can tell me how, I'll actually pull them down and see what
I can find.

Another good idea, though at this point, IF I choose to start in Baruk Azhik
(it's not the only dwarven realm) I'll probably work with the tension of
Mur-Khazad (sp) and the Gorgon as the primary limelight.

That "lost home" I believe can be found in the Cities of the Sun book, page 36.
It was called Kheleb-Izhil. There's a paragraph specifically about that city
there. It says that the dwarves sealed the doors and haven't been heard from
since, so the people on the land around the Dwarves forgot about them.
The cute thing is, if you go to the Rhuannach write-up on page 45, you'll note
that there's a statement in the last paragraph of the page reads: "(the Elves)
conceal their homes and workshops in dense groves or in lantern-lit halls beneath
the hills." Do you think that the "lantern-lit halls beneath the hills" might be
referring to the old Dwarven city of Kheleb-Izhil? Both Rhuannach and Dwarven
city are in the Docandragh region of Khinasi. Did the Dwarves die out or just
abandon the city? I think I might make a connection here for my campaign.
